TexasDevils, At Home and Abroad: Belated Bulgaria, Part II
http://texasdevils.blogspot.com/2013/06/belated-bulgaria-part-ii.html
Saturday, June 08, 2013. Belated Bulgaria, Part II. I took several pictures in Bulgaria that are really just images of daily life within the capital city. Pensioners playing (and observing) a spirited game of chess. A true spectator sport. I can't place where exactly we saw this statue, but it is creepy. It has a vaguely Soviet feel.Is this the Bulgarian version of the Lada? Rather puts me in mind of that toy from Toy Story:. And with that, I have finished blogging about Bulgaria! St Petersburg, Russia:.

TexasDevils, At Home and Abroad: A Trip to the Fire House
http://texasdevils.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-trip-to-fire-house.html
Monday, March 11, 2013. A Trip to the Fire House. Ziggy is at the prime fire truck age. At first, he seemed rather stunned and unsure of what was going on. Still a little unsure about what to make of all this. He'd only ever seen fire trucks in books and when we drive by the fire station. Eventually, the love of all things related to transportation and trucks kicked in, and he was like a pig in mud. I'm in a FIRE TRUCK! Things got even more exciting when a hat came into the picture. Although I am now won...

Let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. -Mary Irion. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Links to this post. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Southern Morocco, ready or not, here we come! We pulled up next to the white camel statue and watched most of the race from the comfort of our car. I realize that a car might not seem very comfortable, but after spending so much time in our Toyota these past few years, it's like our vacation home. As we headed back ...

Our Turkish Adventure: August 2012
http://williamsesinturkey.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 10, 2012. Trains, Planes, Automobiles. For real. I'm on a roll today, or rather Paul is taking a nice long nap, so you also get photos from our trip to the Transportation Museum from Tuesday. My favorite was the room with the "how things work" display. A whole bunch of household electronics and a host of engines from big to small, all with their guts on display with an interactive aspect so you could see how they worked. Want to see what happens in your dishwasher? Black Sea, take 1. Sunsc...

Oh Normal Day: May 2013

Let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. -Mary Irion. Friday, May 24, 2013. One of my favorite things about the Olmsted experience is seeing other scholars in their element. There is something so moving about witnessing this magical adventure on the turf of our fellow Olmsteders. The Welches became our dear friends while in language training in DC. We met them when Abraham was just two weeks old and Gabriel was one! We are so fortunate to...

TexasDevils, At Home and Abroad: Other Sights Around Budapest
http://texasdevils.blogspot.com/2013/08/other-sights-around-budapest.html
Monday, August 05, 2013. Other Sights Around Budapest. So, on our two days in Budapest, we did our best to see as much as we could, despite my summer cold and the oppressive heat. This included a fun trip to the "Terror House"! Despite the 95 degree weather on this particular day, this view gave me something of a chill. All around the exterior, at head-level, were plaques honoring the victims of these regimes. Just a few of the plaques ringing the building. A few of the plaques, up close. At the time, we...

Our Turkish Adventure: Eastern Europe, Part 3: Croatia
http://williamsesinturkey.blogspot.com/2014/01/eastern-europe-part-3-croatia.html
Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Eastern Europe, Part 3: Croatia. Here it is: update 3 of our Eastern Europe Road Trip from this summer! Yes, September was a few months ago, but we've been busy. Still no baby girl born yet, so maybe I'll even get the blog fully up to date before she's born! After Slovenia, we spent a week just in Croatia - so much to see! First stop was Zagreb. Even though the light wasn't great, the waterfalls were really beautiful. And the lakes too. See, I was there too! Then we moved farth...

TexasDevils, At Home and Abroad: Stupendous Santorini
http://texasdevils.blogspot.com/2012/10/our-first-port-of-call-on-our-2012.html
Thursday, October 18, 2012. Our first port-of-call on our 2012 Mediterranean cruise was Santorini. Santorini is amazing in about 400 different ways. First of all, it is simply gorgeous. The morning of our day in Santorini, when I opened the curtains in our room on the ship, this is the view I had. Certainly one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. It isn't too hard to imagine that a volcano used to be here that essentially collapsed in on itself. It was a rather steep funicular. Ziggy's first funi...

Our Turkish Adventure: July 2012
http://williamsesinturkey.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 14, 2012. We've neglected the blog for too long, so here's a timeline in pictures to catch us up. Bear with us. In November, we took a road trip with Ben and Elizabeth. We visited Troy (seen here). As well as Gallipoli. This is Lone Pine Monument, for fallen ANZAC Soldiers. On the same trip we swung through Bursa; here is the 14th century Ulu Mosque. We also visited Bergama on that trip, visiting the Asclepion (here). The Red Basilica (built in the 2nd century AD). But the view at the top ...
