A guy from Brooklyn wants to win the most he can in poker. Interesting weekend in AC. I started out playing some cash (1/2) prior to playing in a tournament. I did pretty well in cash as I pocketed $84 in profit before I registered in the tournament ($70). I understand that playing cash is different from playing in a tournament but I don’t understand why I do so much better at cash than in tournaments. I wonder if my readers also have a similar outcome. J 8 J – two diamonds. The river is a J. Not a bad f...

For People Who Hate People. Wednesday, March 23, 2005. And All That Could Have Been. Reading the Eleventh Circuit's denial. Of the appeal in the Schiavo case, it strikes me that petitioners' attorneys simply missed out on what was likely their last chance to reverse the Florida courts' decisions. Congress gave petitioners a remarkable opportunity to relitigate the substantive merits of the Schiavo decision - i.e. Posted by Alceste at 3:46 PM. Tuesday, March 22, 2005. For People Who Hate People. Monday, July 27, 2009. Another crazy July weekend, as I took home third place money. 18k) in a ten-way chop of the Mohegan Sun deep stack event #4 ($600 buy-in). I've had a great run of luck this past month, and it feels like something has been clicking (I just haven't figured out what "something" is). I'll try to put together a full recap later in the week, in which I may address the following questions:. Does a chicken enchilada really have healing properties? People With Wh...

For People Who Hate People. Monday, July 13, 2009. IHO Hand of the Week. Hosted the July IHO tourney on Saturday. I'll leave the humorous anecdotes to Dawn. Shai and I were 3-handed at around 3 am We discussed doing a chip chop (it was roughly 40% me, 33% Karol and 27% Shai) but utlimately agreed to split the $1130 pot in thirds with $10 extra to Karol and me. My only hand of note was against Mary and Rebecca, a college friend of Dawn's. So, for those who've played against Mary what would you do? You abs...

For People Who Hate People. Friday, July 10, 2009. Trip Recap Part Three. My starting table on Friday was a mix of stacks, with mine right about the table average. Within the first ten hands, I was all-in for the first time all tournament in a series of three hands with one of the shortest stacks in the field. Posted by Alceste at 2:57 PM. Congratulations, and if theres one airport in the country thats probably used to people bringing in/out large sums of cash, that would be the one. People Dawn 2 Knows.

For People Who Hate People. Monday, August 17, 2009. All That Could Have Been. A decent cash in the FTOPS main event. Was playing short for several hours, but managed to survive by pushing. After I finally got called (and won a race), I went on a good run of cards to get as high as 40th before running into the one hand for which I am going to remember the tourney (below). Ended up 187 of 5306 for a buy-in profit. Seat 1: All4non (210,087). Seat 3: Ach1ll3z (102,730). Seat 4: cswidler (69,949). All4non wi...

Deciding that she was going to link to my rather unfinished blog, I figure it is time for a post with more content than simply "test." At some point, actual blogging will commence - just not sure when. Posted by Alceste at 3:20 PM. People Dawn 2 Knows. People With Whom Alceste Has Played Poker.

For People Who Hate People. Monday, May 10, 2010. I've decided to take a few steps down and play under the bankroll (for a few weeks at least) to get back in the right mindset. While it's generally more difficult for me to focus on the smaller buy-in tourneys, I am less likely to dwell on mistakes (in a bad, not really learning from them kind of way); and they have the benefit of being noticeably easier.
