http://tossandripple.blogspot.com/2011/08/healing-soul-healing-body.html
Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. August 12, 2011. Seeking Life Along The Way [Addendum]. In the summer of 2005, my mental health therapist at the time asked if I would write my 'health' story to be included in a book. She asked a few of her clients this same request. She had specific topics she wanted covered. Thus the content of the narrative posted below, a rendition of what I submitted for the book. It was a huge subject for me, this journey toward wellness after decades of chronic illness. At the age...

http://tossandripple.blogspot.com/2009/04/seeking-life-along-way.html
Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. April 11, 2009. Seeking Life Along The Way [Part 1 of 3]. I got involved with The Way International in September, 1977, at the age of 18 and exited 28 years later in October, 2005, at the age of 46. It is not my intention to attack The Way International or other religions/beliefs. Yet, I hope this account gives a glimpse of (1) some of the reasons folks join 'cults' or similar groups and (2) some consequences that authoritarian/elitist groups can have. The Way teaches non...

Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. May 11, 2015. Online. Offline. Freedom. Limbs. Red Rocks and the South Rim. I have become weary of online life. Sometime sixish months ago I thought along the lines of (there's another "line" phrase! Social media feels like the new rat race. I want off the track.". Oh my, I'm wandering and could go into a full ramble (regarding life, competition, rat race, human race, culture). But then I might miss getting out of my noggin what it is I was thinking about blogging. I some...

Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. August 3, 2009. Cult-Recovery 101 and Beyond. I like the terms uncover and rediscover rather than recover. I think of recover as uncover and rediscover. Sometimes it's uncover and discover. Yet most folks know what recover means, in the sense of wellness. Somewhere along the journey of recovery, whether its during phase 101, 201, 301, 1001; it's a good idea for a person to look at their strengths along the path. What have they learned? Note: "TWI" = The Way International).

Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. January 28, 2015. Prompt or not: it was tenuous. I've started writing three different times now during this thirty-minute writing break. I'm tempted to say that I'm breaking the rules by starting over, and over, and over. My next thought is, "There are no rules Carol. You can start over as many times as you want.". I can leave this computer screen blank, no words at all, if I choose. I'm not sure what to make of it. How much have I allowed "it" to change me? I continue to...

Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. February 10, 2015. Urine bags and heroes. I was just reading from an Amazon "look-inside" excerpt from the book Ensouling Language. By Stephen Harrod Buhner. The topic was "heroes.". My self to my self:. Who are my heroes? The so-called little guy who helps out another so-called little guy. I guess I should say "guy or gal.". Independent acts of compassion, kindness, empathy. Acts that don't make headlines. Deeds that receive little-to-no public recognition. In his earlie...

http://tossandripple.blogspot.com/2009/06/journey-through-memoir-introduction.html
Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. June 15, 2009. Journey through Memoir: Introduction. I have an ever-growing list to links of memoir. Some content of the memoirs may change over time as I add more detail; however, that altered content will most likely come out in another memoir on the same subject, approaching it from another angle at another time. Will some of these scribblings ever be in a book? I don't know. At this point a book doesn't mean that much to me. It is a fact I was in The Way for 28 years.

http://tossandripple.blogspot.com/2015/05/and-they-didnt-have-cell-phone.html
Scribblings, memoir, landscapes. May 20, 2015. And they didnt have a cell phone. A few days ago after I finished reading the book Grandma Gatewood's Walk. I perused my bookshelves for my next trail book. I found A Walk in the Woods. Appalachian Trail Thru-hikers' Companion 2012 (Thru-hiker Companions. Are published each year), and The Appalachian Trail. I pulled the third one from its shelf. Below the photo two separate names and an organization are listed. In all caps. In small print. This looks like fun.
