I think of decoration and ornament not as an extra but as integral to the expression of any culture, and the medium through which I express myself. I hope to make something beautiful, that is, something perfectly complete. The processes of etching, aquatint and woodcut have much in common with silversmithing processes but I am fascinated by the illusions and ambiguities possible in the self contained and 2 dimensional world of a print. Three dimensional objects have to take their place amongst other objects in unanticipated environments whilst the borders of a print are just that ‘borders’ to another world.
