Dressing the Mill Stones. Grimsby Mills - a brief history. The Museum of Rural Life. Grimsby Mills - a brief history. Taken from notes kindly supplied by Mr John Sass of Keelby. In a charter of King John to Wellow Abbey mention is made of a windmill which belonged to the Abbey, and the site is still marked by Millfield in Bargate (a windmill remained on the site or nearby until well into the 19. Dressing the Mill Stones. Grimsby Mills - a brief history. The Museum of Rural Life. Dressing the Mill Stones. On a bright, cold March morning in 2011 our miller, John Liles, and Jon Sass, Chairman of the Lincolnshire Mills Group, dressed the stones at the mill. John prepared the mill and both men set up the block and tackle (1) to raise the runner stone by means of chains and then Jon wrapped sacking around the runner stone (2) after inserting a wedge between it and the bedstone. When the bedstone was t...

A brief history of Waltham Windmill | Waltham Windmill

http://walthamwindmill.org.uk/history-waltham-windmill

Dressing the Mill Stones. Grimsby Mills - a brief history. The Museum of Rural Life. A brief history of Waltham Windmill. Waltham, a medium-sized village near Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, once had a smock mill with a bakery, and on an ideal site by the B1203 road there was a trestle-type postmill from 1666, which was blown down in 1744. It was worked by wind until 1962, then operated for a while by electric engine, producing animal feed. In December 1966 Waltham Windmill Preservation Society was...

The Word from Waltham Windmill. Up-to-date info from your favourite mill. Tuesday, 15 February 2011. Did you see me on the front page of the Grimsby Telegraph?
