All posts by derwoodynck. Lower White River Wilderness and Twin Lakes Loop. October 30, 2016. We took advantage of a favorable weather forecast and ended our “hiking season” with a pair of hikes south of Mt. Hood in two separate wilderness areas. Our first hike was in the Lower White River Wilderness. We followed the Camas Trail down to the campground. It was still pretty dark and also fairly foggy when we arrived back on Road 2120 near the entrance of Keeps Mill Forest Camp. We found the use trail along...

Jefferson Park – 2015. August 12, 2015. The forest showed the same signs of the warm and dry year we’ve had. Everything seemed to be at least a month ahead of schedule. Few flowers remained and some of the leaves were already starting to turn color. The sky to the south was a bit hazy with smoke from fires in Southern Oregon, but Mt. Jefferson was enjoying relatively blue skies. Shortly after entering the park we came to a signed junction and needed to decide where we wanted to go this time. We settled o...
Salishan Spit | wanderingyuncks

August 2, 2015. The area was full of salal berries which are edible but not one of our favorites. There were a few flowers at the wayside as well. A short path led through a small stand of trees and down to the beach. We headed north along the beach. The tide was out as we watched seagulls search for snacks in the surf. The beach was fairly free of debris but there were a few items to inspect including some nice drift wood. The spit ends where Siletz Bay meets the Pacific Ocean. We returned along the bea...

Gulkana Glacier. In a word: “Amazing”. July 28, 2015 · 2:24 pm. Gulkana Glacier… Try, Try Again. We waited for a good weather day, and packed for a 2 day overnight trek. This time, after we crossed the suspension bridge, we stayed alert for a trail to the right, which we hoped would enable us to ascend to the peak of the moraine and get past the the unstable end moraine and the creek coming out of Gulkana – success! Rugged Landscape on the Moraine. Once-Upon-a-Time Mud Now Rock. Tent Camp Behind Moraine.

Cross Canada Plains to Alaska 2015. Gulkana Glacier. In a word: “Amazing” →. July 22, 2015 · 12:04 am. Birding and Blooming on the Denali Highway. On our last trek to Alaska, we somehow missed the Denali and Richardson Highways and the region called the “Interior”. Yah I know. I don’t know either. Our plan this time is to spend more time in different regions, settling into an area and really exporing it for a week or two, rather than just cruising through and skimming the surface. The Richardson Highway ...

Newer posts →. May 21, 2015 · 1:07 am. Birding: Paint Box Colors on the Arizona Trail. We were looking for a short hike while staying a few days at Pine Grove Campground near Lake Mary (which is near Flagstaff, AZ). So we checked out our maps and discovered that there was a trail head for the Arizona Trail on a nearby forest road. The surprise for the day was that it was a fabulous area for birding. There were Western Bluebirds…. Western Bluebird Out on a Limb. Male Mountain Bluebird Perched on a Branch.

Birding and Blooming on the Denali Highway. Gulkana Glacier… Try, Try Again →. July 22, 2015 · 4:53 pm. Gulkana Glacier. In a word: “Amazing”. There is just so much about this place to share. This is the place where we really felt like we had accomplished some of our goals for this trip. If we could choose just one place to spend an entire summer in Alaska, this would probably be it. The Audubon guy from our last post? Had told us about this legendary bridge. It sounded like just our kind of adventure.

One's woman's inward/outward journey through Southeast Asia and India. This beats the hell out of the government bus! One last India update…. Small monastery on a hill in Leh, Ladakh. Breath stopping bus rides are part of the adventure here! The barren moonscape of Lamayuru. A large monastery just south of Leh. Riding on top of the petrol truck. The Enfield at Tso Moriri. Ain’t nothing like Kashmiri hospitality. Houseboats and shikaras on Dal Lake. Souvenir hawkers, and hordes of Indian tourists. SUV...

wanderingypsy | Happiness both tangible and intangible.
Happiness both tangible and intangible. The things around me. On a sad day i found clarity. The beautiful summer sky in WA. Outside it’s raining like soft snow. The kind that falls in your eyes. It’s delicate. Inside it’s humming with bass beats and smooth jazzy sounds. The clinking of plates. Tink of cutlery. Peoples voices merge into each other and become a bad choir. Sporadic laughter. I love the contrast and love the escapism. Because it’s all mine. Things i think are real. And I thank you for your s...

Youri...
