Doug Remembers: April 2013
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 27, 2013. If you are making a left turn, the law requires you turn into the nearest lane. If I obey this law, and you, the guy behind me, disobeys and turns directly into the right lane and then guns it to pass me, you don't have validation to be angry when I then merge properly 1 second later and almost hit your front end. I don't mind if someone passes me on the freeway. What I do mind is someone tailgating me when the left lane is wide open! Pay taxes on it. You either pay taxes no...

Doug Remembers: Quick Ottumwa Photo Tour
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2014/08/quick-ottumwa-photo-tour.html
Thursday, August 21, 2014. Quick Ottumwa Photo Tour. So, without further ado, here is a very brief photo tour of my route. I thought this may spark some memories for those of you former Ottumwans who haven't been back in years. You can click on any picture for larger version. Where "old" highway 34 meets "new" highway 34 (it looks like I was playing chicken with the train, but really it was stopped). Vaughn Motors is now here on Hwy. 34 opposite the mall. I used to work admissions/concessions at The Beac...

Saturday, August 17, 2013. Florida Vacation Reflections 2013. You don't have to spend a "whole day" traveling. Our hotel was "Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites" - as the name says, right on the beach (see reviews here. At the beginning of the week, I told Ben and Joe that when digging a hole in the sand, it's a good idea to dig down deep enough to get to standing water. For the rest of the week, they called it "standard water.". Yes, It took me two vacations to finish one book. I'm a slow reader, plus ...

Doug Remembers: September 2012
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 3, 2012. GI Joe Walkie Talkies. Found these guys in my parent's basement last week -. I know I had these at least by 3rd grade (maybe before) because there was another student at Horace Mann that had the same ones. I think he only went to school there for a couple years. I want to say his name was Charlie, but I'm not sure on that. Notice the very convenient (and safe for kids! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). GI Joe Walkie Talkies. Doug Remembers: March 2013
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Our Hearts Were Young (Are They Still? Can you guess what was 20 years ago today? Our Hearts Were Young. Which was the title of my 8th grade play, debuted on March 19th, 1993. The script was actually titled Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. And was the namesake of the original book. From 1942. In order to prevent a large heap of middle school giggles, the directors truncated the "and Gay" portion. Ian and I were convinced that the Courier had. Of his neck and add it to mine. Emily K...

Doug Remembers: September 2013
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Didn't there used to be a piece in the newspaper called "Thorns and Roses? I recall the concept was that a person/thing/event/idea would get a "thorn" if they did something bad, and a "rose" (how appropriate! If they did something good. Well, here is my version. A ROSE to Benjamin for often calling a cemetery a "grave garden." I think I like this term better anyhow! But was too timid to say anything. It only took about 90 seconds, but still, that felt like an eternity.

Doug Remembers: Feeling Middle Aged
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2015/02/feeling-middle-aged.html
Saturday, February 7, 2015. I began a new position with my company about 2 weeks ago. This requires about 6 weeks of training, and during this time, we're in a training room all day every day. (It really feels kind of like taking a college class again - except I'm getting paid to do it and there's no take-home work.). And I have to say - the gulf between 24 and [almost] 36 has never felt broader! Oh, I was in 5th grade when that happened" ("Um. I was already married."). Somehow the movie Forrest Gump.

Doug Remembers: This is Made Out of Wood
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2014/08/this-is-made-out-of-wood.html
Friday, August 1, 2014. This is Made Out of Wood. The EPICness of the tri-level storage shelf. OK, well, I need some affirmative action here. I'm not a big time woodworker of anything, so this is kind of like when your kid draws a picture. You're not expecting a Rembrandt or anything - "it's really good! Debbi and they boys have been in Arizona this week, so this was my chance to use tools and leave hazardous chemicals laying around unattended for long periods of time. Move over, Al Borland. Husband for ...

Doug Remembers: Star Wars: The Machete Order
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2015/05/star-wars-machete-order.html
Monday, May 4, 2015. Star Wars: The Machete Order. Today is May the 4th. So, "May the fourth be with you! This isn't going to be my typical blog entry, I'm going to go full on nerd. So, if that's not your thing, you may want to go back to Facebook now. First, credit where credit is due: almost all of this concept is drawn from this web site. How should someone watch the Star Wars saga? Or, maybe a better question, - if you wanted to watch the entire Star Wars saga, in what order would you watch? Then the...

Doug Remembers: October 2012
http://dougremembers.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 23, 2012. I'm not home every evening when the boys go to bed, but when I am, we have a little bit of a routine. After jammies and brushing teeth, Mommy steps out for a few minutes while I read a story to the boys. As soon as the story ends, we take just a couple minutes to have "Talk about one naughty or good thing" before Debbi comes back to sing their nighttime song. Or, "If we dump out all the Legos, that would be naughty! Mine are usually of the more simple variety. Talk about if mom...
