Waugoshance Lighthouse Preservation Society. A silent and majestic sentinel, the Waugoshance Lighthouse marks the western entrance to the straits of Mackinac. This treacherous area of Lake Michigan was the location of the first Lightship, stationed on Waugoshance Shoal in 1832. Michigan - Straits of Mackinac Lighthouses

Lighthouses of the Straits of Mackinac. 1895, automated in 1924, deactivated from 1947-1996). Now part of the National Forest on tiny, uninhabited Round Island, the building was restored in 1978 for the filming of the movie "Somewhere in Time.". Some of these photos were taken during a lighthouse tour. During the North American Light House Festival held in Mackinaw City, Michigan. The tours were so popular the Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry now offers several tours. New Mackinaw City lighthouse museum.

Built in 1851 to replace a wooden lightship that had served since 1832, to mark a dangerous shallow area of northern Lake Michigan in the approach to the Straits of Mackinac. Abandoned in 1912 the light was replaced by White Shoal. This long abandoned light is only viewable by boat. The Waugoshance Lighthouse Preservation Society is working to restore the light station.
