Online/Realtime Waves and Weather. HISTORY OF OCEAN WAVE RECORDING IN SOUTH AFRICA. South Africa also operated a weather ship, the F H Hughes during the period September 1969 to March 1974. The ship was usually stationed off Cape Point at 40 S; 10 E. It was first fitted with a Boersma recorder which was later replaced by a NIO recorder. A few pressure recorders (OSPOS) were bought from Van Essen in Holland by NMERI and VISKOR and this self-contained unit proved to be very reliable. The records were, ...

Post-processing for wave analysis is acceptable because data have to be captured over a 17-minute period before any analysis can take place. Online/Realtime Waves and Weather. The Stellenbosch office of the CSIR continuously monitors real time ocean waves and weather at various sites around the South African coast on behalf of Transnet. Most of the data is gathered by means of moored wave buoys. The measured data is transmitted to a shore station where a comprehensive analysis is done. The analysed data is then downloaded in near real-time to Stellenbosch, where it is stored in a database. The last Data Update run was at: 2015-08-15 07:00.
