Cooking and eating and everything nice. June 7, 2013. June 7, 2013. South Philly needs another deli like I need a hole in my head, which is why I didn’t give Dew’s Deli. A second glance when it opened. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even notice it. Sitting just up the street from Neumann-Goretti High School, Dew’s has an unassuming outside, with a small sandwich board sign with its name. After reading about the unique Mediterranean menu items on Passyunk Post. That night, we served our Mediterranean feast.

Cooking and eating and everything nice. July 12, 2012. A few months ago, I tweeted that I was going to Nick’s Roast Beef for the first time. I got a tweet back from someone imploring me to try Cafe Chicco. Caffe Chicco is easy to miss amidst some of the other more prominent store fronts on South Broad Street between Snyder and Oregon. With a simple glass sign and a small sandwich board advertising their specials (gravy fries! 8220;Are you allergic to peanuts? 8221; she asked. 8220;See, everyone laughs at...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. April 2, 2011. April 2, 2011. I grabbed about 10 of them and the wheels started spinning. We’ve had excess vodka in our house for ages–the only alcohol left over from our wedding that we didn’t drink ourselves. After the homemade vanilla and those Sex and the City drinks (what are they called? I made for my best friend’s bachelorette party we still had vodka to burn. Do it Then you will know why I will never do it again. Beautiful color and scent though. Each 750ml...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. Adsum Collab Dinner with Kevin Sbraga. May 10, 2011. May 13, 2011. There are so many things I love about Twitter. One of them is the ability to connect and communicate with people with whom you might not otherwise know. Another is that it allows one to be a voyeur, of sorts, watching others interact with one another. This brings me to my most recent meal. A few months ago, Adsum. Chef, Matt Levin. And Top Chef Season 7 winner, Kevin Sbraga. We walked in the door of...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. May 11, 2013. May 11, 2013. After some discussion, we decided to try New York’s outpost of the popular Mission Chinese Food. Of course I wanted every single noodle dish on the menu. I restrained myself and we stuck to two noodle dishes, one small and one large dish. First came the BBQ pigtails. Next up was the kung pao pastrami. This was THE dish we had heard about and it was one of those ones that sounds too interesting not to order, ya know? The peanut noodles ca...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. Not Just Pork at Jake’s Sandwich Board. July 19, 2012. July 19, 2012. Since its opening two years ago, Jake’s Sandwich Board. Has gotten great buzz from the foodie world and Center City lunch crowd alike. I’d been meaning to go and finally ventured there when Level Up. Ran a promotion where anyone using the app would get $10 to spend at Jake’s. What the hell, free lunch. We obviously had to get them too! But I was more interested in this. Just look at it! Brisket s...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. Fannie Farmer’s Peach Cobbler. August 30, 2010. On the way back from Kathy’s Cafe. By Cathy Erway. Erway spent two years “not eating out” in New York and blogging. The process. More about this later. Mid-afternoon I tore myself away from the beach to run home and prep the peaches for the cobbler. Marion Cunningham. Ps Wikipedia gives Marion NO love! The skin slipped off like (insert a cheesy simile here.) Aren’t they gorgeous? 12 tablespoons butter, melted. Pour th...

Cooking and eating and everything nice. Tag: 30 by 30. Talula’s Table Snowstravaganza! January 28, 2011. January 28, 2011. Soon after opening, Sikora and Olexy began offering a “farm table” dinner with one seating per night for 8-12 people. When Craig LaBan gave a glowingly effusive review (no bells though, because he only visited once and was not anonymous) that was just the beginning of a flurry of news from all over, including a 2008 piece in the New York Times. As our dinner date neared, the weather ...
