1996 Annual Persis Bivvy. The Mt. Persis bivvy climb took place March 23rd and 24th. It was cold weekend and it snowed much of the time the first day. We camped at the usual spot, just below the summit. As usual, an excellent bivvy site. Present were Bruce Kolpack, Mark Loftus, Paul Dunn, Glenn and Sandy Cirlincione. Ecuador 2001

In January of 2001, Terry Mataya, Pat Ellis, and I took a trip to Ecuador with the goal of climbing Cyambe (18,982), Cotopaxi (19,347), and Chimborazo (20,700). We got skunked. The biggest problem was the weather. It rained nearly everyday for two weeks. We skipped Cyambe right away and turned our attention to Cotopaxi. Over the period of a week, we made two serious attempts but never made it past the Jose Ribas Hut at 15,700 feet. As a base of operations, we stayed at Hosteria San Jorge.

Terry's business takes him throughout the Western U.S. as his company assimilates smaller companies, requiring him to get the MIS end of things coordinated. January 11, 1999 -. Sitting here on a bench at the Chogoria Gate to Mt. Kenya National Park at 9900 feet. It's calm and very beautiful. Haven't seen any elephants, but apparently they come by this area quite often. It's been only 40 hours since we arrived at Seatac Airport to begin our adventure. The photo on the right was the view I had when I jotted down those words in my journal. It was the first full day that I spent in Africa with Terry Mataya and Mitch Hungate.
