DGC's Hawaii Hiking Tales: December 2012
http://dgcpinoy.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 19, 2012. 12-16-2012: Kalapana Lava Flow. The Hawaiians call her Madame Pele, the volcano goddess. She rules Kilauea and anyone who dare opposes her will be met with a fiery ending. I hoped I would be on her good side when the time to visit her was upon me. I finally got the honor and privilege to hike with TJaye Ailama Forsythe of rustyboar.com. Photo courtesy of TJaye Ailama Forsythe. On Sunday (12-16-12), I got up and drove over to Punchbowl to pick up Chenay. Once at the gate ...

DGC's Hawaii Hiking Tales: October 2012
http://dgcpinoy.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 11, 2012. 8-25-2012: Lahilahi (Black Rock) Point, Makaha Beach. From here, the top is easily acquired by merely walking less than 5 minutes along the crest to reach a cemented metal pole, passing by a couple of Kiawe trees. It appears that someone has erected a Hawaiian Flag which was only secured to this pole by choke (a lot of) industrial tape! I definitely recommend shoes for the summit section past the cement pole and the makai side! Lahilahi Point, Makaha Beach (GoPro 2 POV). Ewa B...

Monday, May 26, 2014. 1-25-2014: Waiʻanae Summit Trail - Kaua to Kolekole Pass (Hapapa). We pushed off on the same spot where we took to gain the WST a week ago when we headed to Makakilo. A strong Kona wind pattern was with us on this day, making for a unique summit experience. The journey is pau. Posted by David G. Concepcion. Wednesday, May 21, 2014. 1-17-2014: Waiʻanae Summit Trail - Kaua to Pohakea Pass to Palehua. Pushing through the tall grass, we made our way southward. For much of the way, t...

DGC's Hawaii Hiking Tales: June 2013
http://dgcpinoy.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 14, 2013. Completion of the Koʻolau Mountain Range. It was March 6th, 2008 when I did my first "hike", up to the top of. Lēʻahi, otherwise known as Diamond Head, the iconic crater that forms the skyline of. Waikīkī. From it's summit, I saw the cityscape in it's entirely. Then, my eyes shifted towards the mountain range that dwarfs the urban city sprawl. My curiosity got the best of me. What was up there? Ou and saw the windward view from the top of the Ko. U was very little documented. I...

DGC's Hawaii Hiking Tales: August 2012
http://dgcpinoy.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 18, 2012. 8-9/10/2012: Manana to Waiahole Uka. After some 4 hours later, we finally acquired the summit and took in the windward views. With an overall overcast sky over the summit, coupled by brisk trades, it made for rather chilly conditions. Wasting no time, we headed in a north, northwest direction along the crest towards Waiahole Uka. And it headed north! Want to thank the pilot of the red RLU-1 Breezy for giving us a ride back to our cars even though your car battery died! PS: I wa...

DGC's Hawaii Hiking Tales: March 2013
http://dgcpinoy.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 17, 2013. 3-9-2013: KST (Castle to Pauao). After a short break in the fence, we came across a sign that read "Ko`olau Summit Trail". The fence continues beyond that. Keep following the fence. Keep on hiking. When will this end? An explosion filled the entire movie screen and the audio became the well known Dolby FX. Yeah, that was exactly what this hike was. A monotone like hike with a spectacular BOOM to incredible vistas that stimulated the five senses. The fence continues on but when the...

Friday, June 22, 2012. 6-20-2012: Diamond Head Rim. Right off the bat, we were greeted by an angry sign "promising" retribution ("a $10,000 fine", "hazardous area", and "Turn back immediately! We eventually reached a series of antennas and then a road that leads up to a building. Beyond the building was the most overgrown portion of the rim. Posted by David G. Concepcion. 5-28-2012: Upper Makua Cave. Mahalo for showing me this wonderful place, Chenay! Upper Makua Cave (GoPro 2 POV). Pali Puka - Likeke Fa...
