Sometimes I write before I think - caveat reader. The written ramblings of a spiritual schizophrenic. Romans 7:19. Tuesday, April 03, 2012. I've talked about it. I've thought about it. Sometimes I write before I think - caveat reader. The written ramblings of a spiritual schizophrenic. Romans 7:19. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. In the book Managing Conflict Through Communication. Forgiveness is powerful medicine. The world would be a better place if more people took a big dose of it. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Las Vegas may or may not have anything to do with what's on my mind. Forgiveness. Forgive others and forgive myself? What does pure forgiveness look like? Today is a hard annive...

Sometimes I write before I think - caveat reader. The written ramblings of a spiritual schizophrenic. Romans 7:19. Thursday, March 22, 2012. I warn you to click to another site now. I wonder if cat deaths have increased with the advent of the remote start feature on cars? Crazy, I know, but I hear about cats curling up on engines and sometimes not escaping even with opening and closing doors. Now, people can start their cars without being in them so how do the cats know it's time to split? Decatur C of C.

Sometimes I write before I think - caveat reader. The written ramblings of a spiritual schizophrenic. Romans 7:19. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Can You Spare Some Change? Mahatma Ghandi is quoted as saying, "Be the change you want to see in the world.". I'm thankful for great friends who have pushed me to do more, to get comfortable by going through some discomfort, to actually do things that look a little bit like what Jesus did. Grace and peace to you. Monday, May 30, 2011. Grace and peace to you. But he'll ...

Rick's Reflections: June 2011

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2011. Beverly and I returned home late Tuesday night from our incredible trip. We are still feeling jet-lagged, and I am dealing with another issue as well. I was on some medication that has caused me to have the hiccups. I'm talking for up to 4-1/2 hours at a time! Hopefully it will be out of my system by Sunday, because once they start I can't carry on a conversation. Unlike any American ice cream. Friday, June 10, 2011. Can the Mavs do it? What an insult to Jordan! Come on, Mavs!

Rick's Reflections: December 2010

http://rross.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 24, 2010. On this Christmas Eve, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Remember that "God in flesh" is our hope. I will be off next week. However, I may decide to blog about something. Who knows? But if not, I pray that the new year will bring rich spiritual blessings to us all! Wednesday, December 22, 2010. 10 months ago today Beverly and I entered a journey we would never have chosen. In yesterday's Star-Telegram there was a Dear Abby (actually now written by Jeanne Phillips, her d...

Rick's Reflections: September 2011

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 21, 2011. My first blog was on Monday, September 13, 2004. Seven years of blogging! But like anything else in this life, times change. Blogs were really "in" seven years ago. Now people want shorter snippets of information. So Twitter and Facebook have moved blogs to the shelf. Having said that, I am gratified to have people tell me that they follow my blog. At times, the ideas have flowed consistently. However, it seems that lately the ideas have come with much less frequency. What ...

Rick's Reflections: Gear Up III

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011/08/gear-up-iii.html

Monday, August 15, 2011. No event in my experience demonstrates on such a large scale how it is truly a blessing to serve. Although our intention is to serve in the name of Jesus, from the feedback I receive our volunteers come away feeling most blessed. May God be praised! And may we continue to be involved in the in-breaking of His Kingdom in Wise County! Gear Up was a success as soon as I gave away the first items from my table of supplies. Rick's Reflections: November 2010

http://rross.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Henri Nouwen, from his book Wounded Healer. Wrote that a minister's service "will not be perceived as authentic unless it comes from a heart wounded by the suffering about which he speaks . . . The great illusion of leadership is to think that others can be led out of the desert by someone who has never been there.". But help me figure this out: Horn is playing Longview in the TEXAS Quarterfinal game. And where will this game be played? Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Thankfulne...

Rick's Reflections: Tough Love vs. Spanking

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011/09/tough-love-vs-spanking.html

Thursday, September 15, 2011. Tough Love vs. Spanking. I saw this on a friend's Facebook entry and thought it was worth sharing:. Tough Love vs. Spanking. Most of America ‘s populace think it improper. To spank children, so I have tried other methods. To control my kids when they have one of ‘those moments.’. One that I found effective is for me to just take. The child for a car ride and talk. Some say it’s the vibration from the car, others. I’ve included a photo below of one of my sessions with.

Rick's Reflections: May 2011

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Fun with the Grandkids. The last few days have been filled with activity, much like most of you have experienced in the month of May. We were blessed to have our Memphis family (Josh and his family) here for several days, and that was such a treat. Truitt and Noah are so much fun! Yesterday Jonathan and his family were with us. Beverly and Jennifer were looking through a lot of Jonathan's stuff from when he was a kid, when they came across his pocket New Testament. The weather did ...

Rick's Reflections: What were Pat Robertson and CC's Carpet Thinking?

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-were-pat-robertson-and-ccs-carpet.html

Thursday, September 15, 2011. What were Pat Robertson and CC's Carpet Thinking? Pat Robertson has determined that it is ok to divorce your spouse if he or she has Alzheimer's disease. He gave consent to the idea of a man beginning to date because his wife suffered from this illness. When questioned about the vows a couple makes, like "In sickness and in health" and "Til death do us part," he said that Alzheimer's IS a kind of death. The list could be unending. I have several thoughts on Robertsons commen...

Rick's Reflections: My New Toys

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-new-toys.html

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. I did something last week that I wish I had done a long time ago. I haven't really thought much through the years about returning to playing the drums. After all, they were SO loud - not real complimentary to raising a family. So I bought a set of electric drums last week. Lots of rust to be knocked off after 35 years (me, not the drums). But even in four days of playing, I can see improvement. I am loving it! It is very therapeutic. And guess what I have played to the most?

Rick's Reflections: January 2011

http://rross.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 31, 2011. P T Barnum once said 'There is a sucker born every minute." No doubt, Jerry Jones believes in that same philosophy. He is offering $250 tickets (must be bought in blocks of 4) to be able to be OUTSIDE THE STADIUM and watch the Super Bowl on video. That is outrageous! People are scarfing these tickets up. Let's just make up definitions for what "attendance" means. If someone drives by our church building on Sunday mornings, can we count them in our attendance figure? I know, I'm ...

Way Out

Tuesday, May 22, 2012. I bought a couple of new knitting books this past weekend and spent some time practicing new stitch patterns. I love the fact that just a few variations in your basic knit and purl sequences can result in such pretty and complicated-looking patterns. Here are a couple of patterns I've been trying out:. This is a basket weave pattern. Here's a zigzag pattern. I really liked this one. One of the books I bought combines two things I love. Knitting and nerds. Posted by Creepy Jen.

Way Out in West Virginia

Way Out in West Virginia. Sunday, December 11, 2005. How old are you, small Vietnamese boy? Why did you carry water to the wounded soldier, now dead? Your father was enemy of free world. You also now are enemy of free world. Who told you to carry water to your father? Your mother is also enemy of free world. You go into ditch with your mother. American politician has said,"It is better to kill you as a boy in the elephant grass of Vietnam. It is easier to die. Than in a stranger country. When McCarthy ra...
