The View From My Chair: Jonah, the Reluctant Evangelist
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2015/07/jonah-reluctant-evangelist.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Saturday, July 11, 2015. Jonah, the Reluctant Evangelist. Jonah pops up in this particular position in the timeline of Israel for a reason. For most of 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles, we watch as Israel embarks on a long,. Slide away from God with Judah following not too far behind. It seems each succeeding king, even the godly ones, slip further away from the Father. In 2 Kings 14:25, we are introduced to Jonah as a prophet of God. On the wa...

The View From My Chair: Newfangled Nana - Newfangled Love
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2015/05/newfangled-nana-newfangled-love.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Newfangled Nana - Newfangled Love. It's a God given gift - being able to see hidden beauty - to have the ability to take something that others cast off as useless, hopeless, finished and discarded and to be able to recreate it, re-purposing it, giving it new life so that the once despised object garners from others a fresh appreciation, a newfangled love. Artists think differently, don't they? Because the settee's uniquenes...

Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Sunday, June 7, 2015. With These Hands" a poem for graduates. I shared a poem in this morning's service, dedicated to graduates on behalf of their parents and loved ones who raised them. It was written by Mark DeYmaz of Little Rock Arkansas and provided to us by Robin Ariola. Here's the text;. With these hands, I gently cradled this child,. Held him close to my heart,. Nursed his wounds and calmed her fears,. Held the books that I would read. Subsc...

The View From My Chair: Why Are We Moving to the ESV?
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2013/03/why-are-we-moving-to-esv.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Sunday, March 10, 2013. Why Are We Moving to the ESV? We all have a favorite version of the Bible to read. You know, the one we're comfortable with and used to, maybe even one we've grown up with. Every now and then, a new translation will come out. Most are exhaustively researched with the translation team laboring over every word and phrase. Taking years to complete the job. We've seen some very good ones in recent years; The Holman Christian...

Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Monday, December 19, 2011. The Lord's Prayer from "The Sermon On The Mount". Have you ever look close.real close.at the Lord's Prayer? We finished our series, "The Sermon On the Mount" two weeks ago. It was a close look at an incredible sermon delivered by Christ at the very beginning of His ministry here on Earth. The series began with a teaching on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 in March and continued on through Matthew 7, ending on Dec 11. God̷...

The View From My Chair: Coming Home - We Have Been Visited By Angels!
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2013/07/coming-home-we-have-been-visited-by.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Saturday, July 20, 2013. Coming Home - We Have Been Visited By Angels! Kelly and I arrived back home this evening, after a 7 hour drive. We've been gone for three weeks, one in New Orleans at the EFCA National Convention then two at Topsail Island in North Carolina for our vacation. We're not usually gone that long but our schedules were a little wonky this year, forcing our vacation to begin right after the conference. That was just the beginning.

The View From My Chair: An Open Letter to My Grandaughter On Her First Birthday
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2008/10/open-letter-to-my-grandaughter-on-her.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Tuesday, October 21, 2008. An Open Letter to My Grandaughter On Her First Birthday. Well, Sammi is one year old today. Maybe some day she'll read this and understand and appreciate why she's so special. I have to admit, it took be completely by surprise. I knew you would be cute and I knew you would be special but I never anticipated how quickly and completely you would capture my heart. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure all this out; why y...

The View From My Chair: How Does Satan 'Speak' to Us?
http://theviewfrommychair.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-does-satan-speak-to-us.html
Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee, home of Mary of Magdala. Monday, February 16, 2009. How Does Satan 'Speak' to Us? This is a tough one, but let me take a stab at it:. It would be just as big a mistake to over estimate him, as well. Scripture demonstrates, time and time again, that we are personally responsible for our own actions and cannot blame Satan. Acts 5:1-10 is a prime example of how the consequences for our actions fall to us and not on Satan. Finding appropriate nomenclature to express these conc...
