Carolyn's and Wally's Journal. Sunday, September 28, 2014. And you know what is interesting about this city.yep, the State House. This is the first peek. The dome with the flags. This one is the seventh one to visit. Montgomery became the capital in 1847 and is located on "Goat Hill." The Dexter's had a goat farm on this location, and the building is on Dexter Street. To our left is a statue of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, in 1861. Behind her is the Fallen Heroes room.

Carolyn's and Wally's Journal. Saturday, July 19, 2014. Is the capital of Maine and we finally went for a visit, making this the 7th State House. This one is plain and simple, much like its people. There are no bullet holes, no scandal, no opulence.totally utilitarian. The building has been remodeled and enlarged, but the original front of the building was preserved. The dome rises to a height of 185'. The building stands on 34 acres which was deeded to the state for ten dollars. There are four stories.
