Babies and children are not mini adults. They have unique nutritional needs to grow and develop properly. Please, please, please only take advice from people qualified and experienced to give advice. If you use baby rice, only use it for a short time (stage 1 of weaning). After this progressing safely with textures and expanding flavours is a priority. A baby that is weaned onto the meals that you eat, will be a toddler that eats what you eat. Adapt the (suitable) meals that you eat to suit your baby. It is important to get it right.

I am a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (www.indi.ie). I have two young children. I believe starting solids is a very important milestone that many parents are excited about but often struggle with. Over the past 10 years I have worked with hundred of families ensuring what they eat meets their nutritional needs.

I have to admit not using kids toothpaste and only using adult toothpaste was a revelation to me. Looking after your baby’s teeth. Your baby’s first tooth should appear at around 6 months. All 20 baby teeth usually appear by age 3 and this is a great age for their first check-up. Bath time is often a good time to introduce toothbrushing.
