Pulses between 1.4 and 2.7 picoseconds have been measured for the first time from micro-cavity lasers. The lab space is 970 sq.ft. and is equipped with a concrete slab for the isolation of 2 optical tables from any building vibrations. The lab contains a wide range of equipment to support a number of research projects at both the system and device levels. Nanophotonics is the world where we control the behavior of light with features that are much smaller than the wavelength of the light itself. This means in the regime around 100 nm (or only 0.0001 millimeters). Scanning electron micrograph of three nano-hole arrays in gold. The last one shows the entire 16 micron array. The hole widths are between 100 and 300 nm. 4 times the transmission for one polarization than for the other.
