De eerste dag van Operation Overlord werd aangeduid met 'D-Day', een term die vaak wordt gebruikt voor de hele operatie. De term D-Day wordt in de krijgsmacht gebruikt om de dag aan te duiden waarop men een aanval of operatie plant. Maar het verwijst meestal naar de landing in Normandië op dinsdag 6 juni 1944.
