The 30 Acre Wood

Thursday, April 9, 2015. Make it stop. Please. The snow just slid off the roof of the house, its own mini avalanche, rattling these old windows and freaking out the cats and causing a vibration under my feet. It’s April 9. This is uncalled for. I’d call Mother Nature a b , but she seems peeved about something already and I don’t want to antagonize her further. I debated whether or not to bring the woodsplitter south. For a brief insane moment I. Meanwhile I’m grateful for having a warm, toasty hous...

The 30 Acre Wood: January 2013

http://weefarmgirl.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 30, 2013. The Day of the Squirrel. Everybody has a squirrel or chipmunk story. One of my favorite moments in the PBS Reality Show Frontier House. Is when Mark, who has broken his back breaking sod to plant some summer crops, takes a stand regarding small varmints raiding his plants. 8220;I’m going to come out here and blow some heads off,” said the former Tennessee teacher. We all know how destructive squirrels and chipmunks are; they may be cute but man, are they problematic. He threw...

Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Don't Try This At Home (Part One). Yes, you read that right. Larry went in the trunk. He offered. To go in the trunk. It was the only way it was going to work, and he knew it, and by God, he was going to make it work. So he folded up, we moved some stuff out of the way, and in he went. We are laughing about this now because nothing bad happened. No cops, no rear-end collisions, the thought of which makes me shudder. Every once in a while Sarah would call out, "Larry? And on th...

The 30 Acre Wood: The Beauty in Necessary Evils

http://weefarmgirl.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-beauty-in-necessary-evils.html

Saturday, December 13, 2014. The Beauty in Necessary Evils. There is never enough time to get things done on the homestead. You wonder where the time went. We spent all summer painting the outside of the house. This meant power washing the exterior and watching pieces of paint and wood go flying all over the yard. It looked like a ticker tape parade had gone through. Why did we wait so long to do this? Larry also built some sweet steps off the back door. We’ve been using a variety of slippery, ...Again, ...

Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Let Go or Be Dragged. Hello 2014, you shiny faced little pixie you. You have no idea how happy I am to see you here. Your predecessor 2013 was a little harsh, and not just on me. Lots of folks had a rough year. On the 30 Acre Wood, she lulled me into a false sense of security for the first five months of the year, and then let loose with the big smackdown. Life After Horses has been a major adjustment, but it’s beginning to feel alright. Larry and I have had the oppo...To expl...

Bullet Pond Journal: July 2013

http://bulletpondjournal.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Adventures of a Backyard Naturalist. Thursday, July 4, 2013. I spotted this salamander while I was swimming yesterday, on a submerged log in two feet of water. It appears to be an adult red spotted newt the adult aquatic stage of the common forest dwelling red eft. The red eft is the juvenile stage of this amphibian which returns to the water as an adult salamander, and can live over ten years. (or until a bass spies it sitting on a log). Grandpa schooled me in a game of Chinese Checkers today. Here's my "Space Facts" board at the Hillside Learning Fair. And some of my friend's presentations, too. Attaching the LEGO space shuttle. Addison and her presentation on. Ryan and Dean next to Dean's display. Maya's Wonder Woman presentation. Our neighbor Sarah and her display on. 12 days 'til spring and we finally had a weekend that we were home and that it wasn't frostbite weather. Took advantage of that and did some sledding. Woo-hoo! The Liam News: Nisky pool

http://theliamnews.blogspot.com/2015/06/nisky-pool.html

Dad brought me to the town pool today toward the end of the afternoon. It started getting a bit overcast and windy (before the rain came later in the evening), but that didn't bother me because they had diving boards that I could jump from. We also kicked a ball around, played in the playground and had a snack. Oh, did I mention. diving boards? July 15, 2015 at 9:38 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The end of the season. Off to see the Wizard! Mom brought me to the Palace Theatre today to see The Wizard of Oz on the big screen! We met Aunt Stacey and cousin Sophia there. Before the movie there were fun games to play in the lobby. After the movie we met Uncle Spike and Dad in Albany for dinner! Boardwalk with 3 houses? That'll be $1400, please.". I drew a picture of Santa for Uncle Mike (aka Uncle Ho Ho) and Aunt Sheila. Not bad, eh? Like my new winter hat? NYC and the LEGO Store! He told me that he knew my Elf on a Shelf...

American Museum of Natural History. Went to the city and the American Museum of Natural History to see some really cool stuff. I helped with the map to navigate us around the place and to the dinosaur bones. We watched Cousteau's "Secret Ocean" which had the most amazing deep sea scenes and over in the Hayden Planetarium was saw "Dark Universe"narrated by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The known universe is big and we are very very very tiny. Great Escape with Cousin Sophia! Went to G'ma and G'pa Me...

WEEFATELIER ALIDA a journal of my weaving, spinning and knitting life.
