Astounded by Sound!: "Dirt behind the daydream"
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2015/03/dirt-behind-daydream.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Sunday, 29 March 2015. Dirt behind the daydream". Us lucky folk here in the UK get to express our five-yearly democratic right in a few weeks, to determine which shade of blue governs our Sceptered Isle for the next half-decade. Ho-hum. What has that to do with music you may ask? Indeed, how could they be anything but left leaning? Remains as potent today as it was 38 (gulp! To the wonderfully direct Let's Impeach The President. Astounded by Sound!: November 2014
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Saturday, 29 November 2014. The MOJO CD - The Best Of 2014. It's that time of year again when the "Best Of" lists start coming out. In order to give any band daft enough to release an album in December a chance, I always hold off until the Xmas holiday, but MOJO are there already with their picks of the year on January's cover CD. Why do mags release issues in one month and call them by the month after next? 1 Beck - Blue Moon. MOJO#1 album of 2014). Another 70s stom...

Astounded by Sound!: Julian Cope - One Three One
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2015/04/julian-cope-one-three-one.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Thursday, 16 April 2015. Julian Cope - One Three One. By the book's end Section, having had to cope (heheh) with his time on Sardinia without the assitance of his usual diet of chemicals, has redeemed himself somewhat, via justified revenge on his and his mates' tormentors from 1990 and by the healing power of lurve, baby. Reading reviews on Amazon, it becomes clear that many of those who struggled with One Three One. On the the other hand starts off as hard work, as...

Astounded by Sound!: Lerin/Hystad - Amaterasu
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2015/04/lerinhystad-amaterasu.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Sunday, 19 April 2015. One of my many trawls through that bottomless pit of the obscure that is Bandcamp ended up at this album. Using streetlife recordings from Tokyo and Osaka entwined around their bubbling and occasionally meditative electronica, the duo paint a vivid picture tinged with Eastern promise. Clever use of looping makes tracks like Harajuku. Compelling and hypnotic experiences, and much varied instrumentation, including some great guitar on Kabukicho.

Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Saturday, 30 August 2014. Zeptelar - El color de las cosas. Hailing from Valparaiso in Chile, a coastal city and port 0.40° north of the inland capital Santiago, Zeptelar released El color de las cosas. The colour of things) last year. Fusing rock, jazz, and a light sprinkling of ethnic stylings, the group make an appealing sound that is easy on the ear. The compositions are mostly the work of guitarist Camilo. De la esquina a la plaza. Is a good start. Syncopation i...

Astounded by Sound!: July 2014
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Saturday, 26 July 2014. Greenwall - Zappa Zippa Zuppa Zeppa! Greenwall is the project of Italian keyboard player, multi-instrumentalist and composer Andrea Pavoni. Starting the group as far back as 1999, Andrea says the name came from a combination of his favourite colour and a reference to Pink Floyd's The Wall. Andrea used to be part of a Pink Floyd covers band, but you'd not know it listening to this album. Opens with the acapella Superprezzi. Not the apples) puts...

Astounded by Sound!: June 2014
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Sunday, 29 June 2014. Tim Bowness - Abandoned Dancehall Dreams. Starting life as tentative ideas for a no-man album,. Morphed into Tim Bowness' second solo album, some ten years after his first, 2004's. Starting off at a canter, propelled along by Pat Mastelotto's tribal drumming, The Warm Up Man Forever. Lives in a world of 1980s big drum productions intertwined with a surreal Enoesque soundscape as the protagonist wearily accepts his fate as a second-stringer. ...

Astounded by Sound!: jh - Morning Sun - The Best Of jh
http://astoundedbysound.blogspot.com/2015/03/jh-morning-sun-best-of-jh.html
Eclectic Music for the Mind and Body. Monday, 2 March 2015. Jh - Morning Sun - The Best Of jh. Jon Hunt aka "jh" is a London based singer-songwriter, and as such a slight departure from what usually gets written about on these pages. What gets him here is the eclectic nature of his work, and this compilation draws together tracks from his three albums to date. The wistfully reflective but still somehow summery groove of opener Next Time. Song cycle from Jon's second album Wanderlust. A curious mix of Pet...
