Carrots, Kale, and Beans Galore | WeekendSprout's Mini Garden
https://weekendsprout.wordpress.com/2014/11/11/carrots-kale-and-beans-galore
WeekendSprout's Mini Garden. Locally Grown, Right from My Backyard in the City. Carrots, Kale, and Beans Galore. Orange, white and purple carrots. I raided the carrot box because I needed space to plant onions so up came all the carrots from the spring. They didn’t get very big but they are much straighter than my first batch last year. Since we had an extra day of rest today, we went to the sprout store and bought some seed potatoes and more seeds on sale! Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window).
Baby Sprouts | WeekendSprout's Mini Garden
https://weekendsprout.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/baby-sprouts
WeekendSprout's Mini Garden. Locally Grown, Right from My Backyard in the City. This weekend’s harvest was just a handful of mesclun sprouts and tiny round carrots that I had to pick out of my wine crate. Unfortunately the box was too shallow so I need to start again with my carrots. They are really cute though. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). WeekendSprout's Mini Garden. Locally Grown, Right from My Backyard in the City. While I was Sleeping…. How quickly time passes. Somehow the month of January went by in a blink. Even though I haven’t had much time to wander in the garden as much, my veggies didn’t seem to mind. The napa cabbages and potatoes have doubled in size over the past few weeks:. Napa Cabbages (December 20, January 18 and February 1). Potatoes (January 20 and February 1). Cauliflower (January 20 and February 1). Most of my beans d...

Getting Back On The Horse That Is Falling Off The Wagon. March 22, 2015. I love muddled metaphors. Even more so if you can throw in some hyphenated expletives for a little flavor. Though the blogging waned, the garden last year did not. Here is the tally from 2014:. Beets – 2 lb 10 oz. Kohlrabi -4 oz (failed). Kale – 15 oz. Green Beans – 13 lb 7 oz. Squash – 26 lb 11 oz. Zucchini – 17 lb 1 oz. Peas – 6 oz (Kiddo kept eating them off the plants). Cucumber – 17 lbs 3 oz. Cherry Tomato – 4 lb 1 oz. Sure I m...

Still Kicking | Philosophers and Ploughmen
https://philosophersandploughmen.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/still-kicking
August 24, 2014. It has been well over a month since the last post…hell, almost two now. My aspirations to blog regularly may have been a bit much, well that and a non-functional computer which doesn’t help much. So here is the readily abridged, short short version of the last month and change. As of this post, we have harvested over 90 pounds of vegetables. Not nine…. Nine with a zero tacked on the end. This still amazes me. We’ve always had decent returns from the garden, but not like this. Iowa Jim, w...

This is a running list, so it will continue to grow. I have not added any books that I haven’t read, but please feel free to add your own favorites to the comments below. Some of these books could easily fall into multiple categories, but you get the idea. The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible. Odale’s Ultimate Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening. Bradley, Ellis, and Phillips, eds. Series), Edited by Eliot Wigginton and Students. Vertical Vegetables and Fruit. The Gardener’s A-Z Guide to Growing Organic Food.

https://philosophersandploughmen.wordpress.com/2014/04/13/where-the-wildish-things-are
Where the Wildish Things Are. April 13, 2014. Spoiler alert: This post has nothing to do with gardening, just some pics from my weekend adventures. Parker’s Creek Natural Area. Looking north along the Chesapeake Bay, the sand bar shows the mouth of Parker’s Creek. A portion of the tidal, brackish section of the creek. A red throated loon, a juvenile I believe. From the creek looking out to the bay. Bacon Ridge Natural Area. The old willow pond. Skunk cabbage coming up in the marsh. Roll Up Yer Sleeves.

https://philosophersandploughmen.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/roll-up-yer-sleeves
Roll Up Yer Sleeves. April 6, 2014. At long last, warmer weather has finally arrived! Spring is here in all its sniffle-inducing, eye-watering glory. And we all know what that means: time to knock the rust off and get to work. Our short grass prairie. Home to the world’s tiniest bison. I was very pleased to see how well the rye worked as both a cover crop and weed inhibitor, read about that here. The garden, pre-shave and a haircut. The garden, with a fresh cut, ready for some earth-work. 5 responses to ...

Weekends So Sweet
Sunday, August 24, 2014. Office in the Closet - Before and After. In recent months I started a new job, we moved north across the Golden Gate bridge and started working on updating our 1970s style condo. It's been fun. We officially have no kitchen floors or cabinets at the moment but with the help of pinterest, a contractor and lot of DIY painting the place is looking pretty good. Our first completed project was based on my extreme pinterest love for offices in closets. Pretty cool, right? The room stil...
