Keep ’em Coming | weeklydevotion

http://weeklydevotion.com/2015/07/21/keep-em-coming

Keep ’em Coming. When I look at this picture, I have some really great memories…. Of being bored out of my mind. This is Saline Presbyterian Church, in Michigan. I would have been around 9. My brother was 7. Up front, the preacher (our dad) was preaching, and we were trying to make it through another hour of worship. Tic Tac Toe. Hangman. That dots and boxes games. We’d count the number of ceiling tiles. We’d try to make the other one laugh, and then look scornfully if they did. Theological concepts bega...

Nothing Doing | weeklydevotion

http://weeklydevotion.com/2015/04/21/nothing-doing

Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and again, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun. Lord, could you make nothing happen today? I’m just not in the mood. No drama. No stress. No surprises, not even the good kind. Just keep things even keel. Nothing new to ponder. Nothing requiring thought. Nothing revealing. Nothing to learn. No new people. No new ideas. Do you hear me? Except I don’t want to be bored.

This Ability | weeklydevotion

http://weeklydevotion.com/2015/04/14/this-ability

Do you have a disability? I bet you might. They come in all shapes and sizes. Maybe your eyesight has failed you. Maybe you have crippling depression. Or Autism. Maybe you were born with only one hand. Maybe you need a new hip. Maybe you have trouble reading or learning. Maybe you have food allergies. Maybe you have trouble remembering names. Maybe you can’t see the color blue. Maybe you’re confined to bed. The list goes on and on. Here’s a definition. Because God helps us wrestle with our disability.

Your Cheating Heart? | weeklydevotion

http://weeklydevotion.com/2015/06/02/your-cheating-heart

Lance Armstrong, Tonya Harding, and Bill Clinton all die on the same day. There they stand, in line at the Pearly Gates. As they approach the entrance, Saint Peter recognizes them and pulls them out of line, asking for their autographs. Bill Clinton looks at the other two, and asks Saint Peter, “Aren’t you going to punish us because we cheated? Ever fudge on your taxes? Ever ask the kid at the next desk the answer to #5? Ever pass “go” when you should have gone to “jail”? Holding it in can be painful.

How do you solve a problem like Lady Gaga? | weeklydevotion

http://weeklydevotion.com/2015/02/24/how-do-you-solve-a-problem-like-lady-gaga

How do you solve a problem like Lady Gaga? Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce to you…. She recently sang a medley of Julie Andrews tunes from “The Sound Of Music” on Sunday’s Oscar telecast. Look at that sweet smile. Her voice was amazing. They gave her a standing ovation. I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of a person I’d love to have in my church. Sweet, talented, full of energy. Engaging. However, this is. Actually, you can’t see her in this picture. Still want her in your church? The woma...

September 2012 – answertothecall

https://answertothecall.wordpress.com/2012/09

September 10, 2012. Yesterday there was a retreat at the Denver Botanic Gardens for Iliff students, faculty, and staff. We had a small group, but it was a powerful day! We spent some time with a contemplative reading of Luke 12. 22-34. Then we split up for some individual time around the gardens. As I sat by a lily pond and I opened myself up to what God was saying to me, the words began to flow, and the result is the (untitled) poem below. Do not feel shame. For the pain you feel. It need not be.

October 2012 – answertothecall

https://answertothecall.wordpress.com/2012/10

October 29, 2012. Sorting It All Out. I have not been a faithful blogger. I wish I could say it’s because I’ve been so busy being a faithful Christian. I’m not even sure that I could say that I’ve been a faithful seminarian. Oh, I study a lot. I’m doing well in my classes. But I’ve lost the spark that I felt for God when I started seminary. Avoidance doesn’t make it go away. And it doesn’t make it easier. Avoidance is not self-care. Here’s the short version of the things I’m wrestling with:. Musings of a...

Why Searching for Questions? See end of previous post). I have a job! I have a job! I have a job! And it’s not at a bank! Tomorrow I begin as the box office manager and volunteer coordinator at a theater here in town. Hooray! For the first time in our relationship, Matt and I have full time jobs. At the same time. And the peaches, rhubarb, cucumbers, corn, tomatoes and cherries! Tonight we’re having fried green tomatoes. All in all, life is good. God is good. Posted in the working world. Sorry about the ...

Light in the Darkness – answertothecall

https://answertothecall.wordpress.com/2012/12/15/light-in-the-darkness

December 15, 2012. Light in the Darkness. So many of us want to know why. Why would someone hurt innocent children? Why were some spared and others lost? My answer is that we may never know why (at least in this lifetime). Faith is about trusting God’s presence and love even when we don’t understand the why. So often, we focus our questions of why on negative circumstances. We need to remember that we also don’t know the why of positive things. Why do we fall in love? Why does God love us SO MUCH? I have...

Why Searching for Questions? We’ve been here two months and Matt has already been promoted! He’s now the afternoon guy on Star 105.7. Unfortunately, his new schedule doesn’t work so well with my work schedule, so we got into the second car market a little sooner than we would have liked. But with a little bit of searching, we found this beauty:. Matt loves it and I am pretty excited to drive my little blue car again🙂. Posted in the working world. Newer Entry →. So proud | Searching for questions

https://searchingforquestions.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/so-proud

Why Searching for Questions? I am so proud of my husband. Last week was a little roller coaster like for him. One night we had a medical emergency (don’t worry, it turned out to be very minor, but it took about 5 hours to know for sure) that had us pretty worried. But he handled it very calmly and with some humor. And luckily, nothing was wrong! And then less than 24 hours after our visit with doctors, he got a HUGE promotion at work! Weekend Dessert | Some make a News Years Resolution to eat less sweets. I make one to make one new dessert a week.

Some make a News Years Resolution to eat less sweets. I make one to make one new dessert a week. November 9, 2013. This recipe came to me in my Cooks Illustrated magazine, and it looked like it could easily be adapted for a gluten-free recipe. I was right — this was rich, smooth and very, very chocolaty. This was also fairly simple to make — I’ll probably be including it on the menu of desserts for our annual church council dinner next month. Here’s What you Need:. 2 tbs heavy cream. 1/4 tsp. Salt. An ho...

Devotional Blog | A KRB Daily Devotional

A KRB Daily Devotional. Be slow to anger. God blessed me with this word a few weeks ago and I was unsure about posting it until a few days ago when He confirmed to me His direction. You know in life we go through many unjust events, hurts and let downs that throw us off task or causes us (although we allow it) to loose focus. Topic of the day: Be slow to anger. Subtopic: Thou shall not kill. 8217; will be in danger of the fire of hell. Raca = An Aramaic term of contempt. When we do get angry, we must be ...

Weekly Devotionals – McMinnville Cooperative Ministries. Short weekly studies based on the theme for Sunday worship. A Strange New World. August 12, 2015. What does this hospitality mean for us today? Where are the opportunities for us to entertain angels? Weekly Devotional Thoughts

Thursday, November 5, 2015. I was reading a blog article on The Crucible Project. Website this morning written by my friend and mentor Judson Poling. It is titled: The Long and Winding Road. Hmmm, reminds me of a song). Judson’s perspective on focusing on just the step ahead reminds me how I tend to view life. I wrote on this in a Devotional blog article a couple of years ago titled: Destination…. Today, I still tend toward living my life as if I am working toward a destination and not the journey. There...
