http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 23, 2014. An oldie but a goodie from Ethiopia! Chicken is expensive there (or was when I lived there), so this would normally be served around the holidays, the Nativity. Especially. Any days a good day for doro wot though, and since I was in need of a pick-me-up I decided to try my hand at this. (Its been a long. Time since I made it last.). Links to this post. Sunday, October 19, 2014. Smoked Tofu Pumpkin Soup. Sorry It seriously rocks my world! Links to this post. Chilli Crab Prawns ...

Oxen and Elephants: January 2015
http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 7, 2015. I made this for brunch for the Nativity this year and it was just lovely! The interior texture reminded me of breading pudding - I may just add raisins the next time I make this! And so much nicer to throw this in the oven than to stand by the hot plate making regular pancakes and either eating them right there or eating cold pancakes by the time theyre all cooked! Oxen and Elephants: Massaman Curry Tofu
http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2014/12/massaman-curry-tofu.html
Sunday, December 7, 2014. I loved all things Thai long before I first got the chance to visit Thailand, and massaman curry chicken has been a favorite among favorites. I was reminded recently of how long it's been since I had massaman anything, and so I decided to slightly adapt this recipe. To take it from carnivorous to vegan. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! 1 tablespoon of oil. 4 cloves of garlic (minced). 1 teaspoon of cumin. 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder. 1 teaspoon of ginger (minced).

Oxen and Elephants: Easy Breakfast Syrup
http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2015/01/easy-breakfast-syrup.html
Tuesday, January 6, 2015. I never would've thought I would be making my own syrup, but it's just not a thing here in Manchuria. (I'm told local tastes don't like sweet stuff, but when I follow that statement up with questions about why virtually all. The popular bread here is sweet no one can explain.) I did find pure maple syrup in one store, but it was prohibitively expensive for someone whose teeth are all sweet teeth! In any case, this is a great, easy, and quick recipe for making syrup! Oxen and Elephants: April 2015
http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. This is one of my all-time favorites from Ethiopia, and a relatively simple, plain dish too. (Plain in my world - if youre someone who thinks of food with salt and pepper as spicy, then you probably wouldnt feel the same way! Its on the level of comfort food for me, and also a good way to get more vegetables into your diet if youre not a big salad eater. (It can also be made vegan depending on your needs and desires.) Enjoy! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, February 1, 2015. Ive been making spiced hot chocolate for a few years now, so long that when I have friends over and theyve (A) never heard of it and (B) love it Im a little surprised since its such an ordinary thing to me! I was reminded recently that it isnt ordinary to a lot of people though, so I thought Id post a recipe (more like generic guidelines) for those of you whove never thought to spice up your hot cocoa a bit! Oxen and Elephants: April 2014
http://oxenandelephants.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2014. If youve been to Pascha. In an Orthodox country in Eastern Europe - Russia, Ukraine, even Georgia - then youve seen the dozens and dozens of kulichi in baskets waiting to be blessed on the holiday. Theyre a standard part of every Pascha basket. Meal, and are pleasantly versatile, working well when fresh and slathered in syrnaya paskha. And when older, toasted, and eaten with butter, jam, or another spread. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
