My Yellow Apple: Journeys in Parenting Asperger's Syndrome: Real Inclusion
http://myyellowapple.blogspot.com/2012/12/real-inclusion.html
Saturday, December 15, 2012. We hit a milestone today. My little man attended his first movie at the theatre. This my friends, is huge. All four of us were able to go to the movies together as a family. So, thank you to the mom who took the time, and put the energy into asking for this movie experience. And thank you to Empire Theatres for being willing to make small accomodations, that make such a big diference. This morning, we went to a movie. All of us, together. December 16, 2012 at 12:47 AM.

Our Senational Life... One Day at a Time: March 2011
http://oursenationalfamily.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Our Senational Life. One Day at a Time. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. A post from June 2009. This post was previously posted on our now private family blog, it was dated June 12, 2009. This was roughly 5 months after Shelby's diagnosis of Sensory Processing Disorder. I am sad. I am angry. I am ungrateful. I am confused. I mourn. But mostly I am frustrated. I AM A SENSATIONAL MOM OF A SENSATIONAL CHILD. and I am happy that I am! If I had a quarter. I wish I had a quarter for every time someone has called my se...

Life with Aspergers: Why Do Aspies Suddenly Back-Off in Relationships? (Part 1)
http://life-with-aspergers.blogspot.com/2009/10/why-do-aspies-suddenly-back-off-in.html
Thursday, October 29, 2009. Why Do Aspies Suddenly Back-Off in Relationships? One of the most frequent questions I'm asked is why an aspie (or suspected aspie) suddenly goes "cold" and backs off on an otherwise good relationship. It's a difficult question and the answers would vary considerably from one person to another and would depend greatly on the circumstances. Nevertheless, I'll try to point out some possibilities. Since the aspergers diagnosis is based on purely subjective criteria, it's not unli...

Life with Aspergers: Where to Now? Medication and Paediatricians and Teenagers with Asperger's Syndrome
http://life-with-aspergers.blogspot.com/2015/07/where-to-now-medication-and.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. Medication and Paediatricians and Teenagers with Asperger's Syndrome. We've been taking our kids to see the same developmental paediatrician for a decade now and sadly he's moving to a less accessible place. Happily, he's such as great doctor that we'll still go the extra mile (miles) for him but our last visit did prompt the discussion;. Ritalin into the Future. Rather than simply discuss "where are we going to get the Ritalin from now", I wanted to go back to our original thoug...

A Different Brainspace: I don't believe in a Normal Life
http://differentbrainspace.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-dont-believe-in-normal-life.html
Family. teenagers. neurologically interesting. Sunday, November 13, 2011. I don't believe in a Normal Life. I believe that 'normal' is something that people pretend. A social construct. Conform to the average, aspire to the above-average. I don't believe that most people (or families) think much about it. They go on pretending, and aspiring, watching the neighbours, the newspapers, the TV, and most of the time they come close enough, without too much effort. It's the done thing. Just do it. I believe tha...

A Different Brainspace: April 2010
http://differentbrainspace.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Family. teenagers. neurologically interesting. Friday, April 30, 2010. As the mornings get ever so slightly chilly, it's time for Dreamer to wear for the first time his Senior jersey. Each year, the school seniors are allowed to wear a personalised jersey instead of the regular school jumper. It's a rugby jersey, the number on the back representing their graduation year, and each student gets to choose what to have printed in the 'player name' area. His jersey says UNCERTAINTY. The boy loves his physics!

Our Life with SPD: Restarting OT
http://ourlifewithspd.blogspot.com/2011/11/restarting-ot.html
Monday, November 7, 2011. OT Take 2 is now underway. Ms. J came to our house about fifteen minutes before J arrived home from school on Friday, to chat with us a little more. We talked in more detail about things that have been previously attempted, and with what results. We discussed where we felt J's biggest current challenges are - transitions (big or small) and baths/showers. First impression - Ms. J is very friendly and interacts well with children. She's knowledgeable and experienced. S...I also wo...

A Different Brainspace: Wanted: One Career
http://differentbrainspace.blogspot.com/2011/10/wanted-one-career.html
Family. teenagers. neurologically interesting. Friday, October 28, 2011. Dreamer applied for an apprenticeship, and was going through the process, so that was one less thing to think about. For a while, anyway. Hey, mate, have you checked your email lately? No, not lately. Can you go do it? And damn. There it was - "Thank you for your application. However.". Dreamer's future is back on the worry-list. We need to get the blob out of the house, at least occasionally. Find him a McJob? But I have to try.
