Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear
Wellington Cycle Chic: Everyday wear
http://wellingtoncyclechic.blogspot.com/2016/06/everyday-wear.html
Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear. Friday, June 10, 2016. Here are a few examples of what I wear on the bike around town. Everything is optimised for cycling and for making interactions with other people positive - plus feeling and looking good, but that's a given. Most of what I wear is off the peg and made in New Zealand by Rembrandt. Ironically, none of the items I've had made for me are in my favourites list.) The hats are all Kangol 504 and the sunglasses Vuarnet 058. Need for Tweed 2015 (with Mrs...

Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear. Friday, October 21, 2011. How to go touring. Lisa has requested that I write up something about bicycle touring, so here goes. I will conduct this writeup in the form of a question and answer session. Soundtrack: Avishai Cohen. Q What is cycle touring really like? A Imagine you're riding your bike. Yep, that's it. Q What sort of bike do I need? A Whatever you have at present is fine. If it can't take a carrier rack, tow a trailer. Choose one of the popular ones. A Wha...

Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear. Monday, January 27, 2014. The Fantastical History of Professor Allen. One way to get in touch with Professor Allen is to write care of his private box number. I decided, instead of writing, to inquire for him on the waterfront, where I understood he worked. I went at first to the Wharf Police, who were bound to know him well by sight; probably they would know where he was working that day, and I could approach him in person. 8217; ‘Who? The reader’s attention is ...

Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear. Saturday, July 23, 2011. Cycle safety: ur doin it rong. Visibility is incidental to cycle safety. Much has been written and spoken about safe cycling. Most of it, in recent years, has centred on helmets and visibility. In my opinion, neither of these has much to do with being safe on the roads. Helmets don't keep you safe; all they can do is mitigate head injuries. Far better not to crash in the first place. It's much easier. Don't collide with you. So this is what I.

Wellington Cycle Chic: What to wear. Wednesday, March 12, 2014. How to ride your bike to work. In New Zealand general and in Wellington in particular there is a commuter cycling boom underway. Kiwis are a sporty bunch and the tradition, such as it is, is to ride racing bikes to work, wearing tight polyester clothes upon which advertisements for various products and services are printed. Here is a map link showing the route I take. http:/ goo.gl/C5aKeW. Location: Khandallah, Wellington, New Zealand. View ...

Extreme Picnics: July 2007
http://extremepicnics.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Cycle touring, pretty much. Monday, July 09, 2007. Out the back, lost again. This is from a couple of weeks ago (ie the last weekend it wasn't raining). I'm riding the On-One fixie, for this is Tramping Encumbered by Bicycle territory. I think I'm here: http:/ maps.google.com/? Ie=UTF8&ll=-41.261622,174.743192&spn=0.002948,0.006748&t=h&z=18&om=1. Cycle touring, pretty much. Friday, October 26, 2007. Early morning sunshine. Nice! Thursday, October 25, 2007. Peugeot with fat tyres. I've been commuting to work on this bike all week and it's great. Cir. Cumference of the Maxxis Hookworm 26 x 2.5" tyres is within milimetres of my Schwalbe 27" tyres, and rolling resistance tests - just coasting down Epuni St on the Peugeot then the Trek - indicates that they're on par. Cool. Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Peugeot with fat tyres.

Cycle touring, pretty much. Thursday, November 29, 2007. Looking good, the Holdsworth is nearly finished. Stronglight 42/46 rings up front, an 18T cog on the back. Which gives 63 and 69 inch gears. The Gillott has a 42T ring and 16 and 18 tooth cogs - giving the same ratios, near as dammit. Could really do with a dynohub for the light, which is very nice but there's no room for a battery. It's noticeably sportier. Wheelbase is the same. Maybe the head angle is slightly different. Dunno.

Cycle touring, pretty much. Monday, April 07, 2014. Hello, gentle readers! I've been touring; that's why I haven't updated this blog in years. Here are some recent highlights. But now and again, you want something slightly more challenging. Brazil! I like gear lists, so here goes. 1982 Trek 720 touring bike, 23" top tube (my favourite bike ever). Mavic MA2 rims, 36 H, Shimano RSX 100 7 speed cassette hubs, stainless spokes. Schwalbe Kojak 700x35 mm slick tyres. Suntour Vx GT rear derailleur. Front LED ht...
Extreme Picnics: How to Do the South Island (part 1)

Cycle touring, pretty much. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. How to Do the South Island (part 1). My wife and I host cycle tourists through Warmshowers.com. Very commonly, our guests are on their way south and will stay with us for a night or two before catching a ferry to the South Island. People sometimes head straight for Christchurch down State Highway 1 (which is kind of boring) but most are keen to head for Nelson and then down the West Coast. And the Maruia Saddle. These are must-do routes! From Welli...

Cycle touring, pretty much. Sunday, September 28, 2014. How to ride your bike between Auckland and Wellington. For the past few years, I have been looking for the best routes between the two main cities of the North Island of New Zealand. By “best”, I mean a route that is reasonably direct, with little traffic, good scenery, sufficient services along the way and is not too hilly. Use Google Maps. For everything! Cycle touring, pretty much. Monday, November 10, 2008. Lake Wairarapa mushun, Easter 08. Over Easter, Frogspace and I did a quick mushun over to the Wairarapa. Train to Maymorn, ride through Tunnel Gully and over the Rimutaka Incline. Very nice! The bike also did surprisingly well on the Cross Creek tringlesack. All bikes are mountain bikes, man. So we crose up to Featherston, where I drank beer with my friend Matt and Frogspace plew Gears of War on Matt's big liquid cooled gaming PC.

Wellington Region Cycleways | Promoting Cycle Ways from Seatoun to the Manawatu River (and beyond) – Wellington, New Zealand
Promoting Cycle Ways from Seatoun to the Manawatu River (and beyond) – Wellington, New Zealand. Come ride your bike across the watery bits of Auckland. It’s been quite a hiatus on the Wellington Regional Cycleways blog. My working life has been taking up most of my life and I haven’t been on my bike for a while. In the interim I’ve invented a board game, Harbour Bridges. Which is now live on Kickstarter. I know it’s not Wellington, but Auckland, (and Sydney to boot), but come have a look. And I got to cr...
