Fiat Iustitia: Introduction & Intent
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/p/introduction-intent.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. My name is Cal. I'm a student of History, and enjoy the process of hunting for what lies beneath and what is between the lines. However, first and foremost, I'm a follower of the Lord Jesus. The purpose of this blog is to look out my window on the world around me and provide commentary. This may come as news commentary, essays on historical matters, or fleshing-out ideas. All in all, it's an attempt to walk in wisdom as I follow the Messiah. No matter...

Fiat Iustitia: Against Augustine
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2016/03/against-augustine.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Thursday, March 17, 2016. This is not to say Augustine is wholly in error, or that he is a hesiarch, or that he is a blackhat riding into town. While you may not know me, dear reader, I hope that my readings do not show me as petulant or as wildly uneducated in my assertions. I will continue with my frustration with Augustine and the Augustinian lineage unhindered by compliment. Consider these the words of a jaded ex-lover, so be it. These are not...

Fiat Iustitia: Athanasian Revolution I: Creativity, Creation and Christology
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2017/01/athanasian-revolution-i-creativity.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Monday, January 2, 2017. Athanasian Revolution I: Creativity, Creation and Christology. I would summarize this in a double move:. 1) The emphasis on the radical disconnect and otherness between God and Creation. God is eternal, creation came into being from nothing. This is the essence of the creatio ex nihilo. How can creation exist, and creativity not exist? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). After Existentialism, Light. Awhile ago a Protestant fri...

Fiat Iustitia: Blessed Are the Peace-Makers: Against Christendom and "Just War"
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2016/02/blessed-are-peace-makers-against.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Blessed Are the Peace-Makers: Against Christendom and "Just War". Of course, I am vulnerable to this criticism, but so it is. February 13, 2016 at 8:09 AM. The fact that even a big name such as John Piper would receive such vitriolic reactions after suggesting that Christians not arm themselves shows just what American Christians really worship: flag and gun. Its really depressing to say the least. Awhile ago a Protestant...

Fiat Iustitia: 50 Shades of Pelagius
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2016/01/50-shades-of-pelagius.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Tuesday, January 12, 2016. 50 Shades of Pelagius. In his later years, Augustine spent a majority of his time trying to combat teaching from a British Monk. While he spent more time wrangling with mutations from the monk’s disciples (i.e. Julian of Eclanum), Pelagius has gone down in much history of the church of Jesus Christ as a villain. His deficient anthropology and christology led him to some deeply flawed views. Pelagius came to Rome from his mon...

Fiat Iustitia: Of Riddles and Regulae: Thoughts on Ecclesiology, Canon, and Theological Method
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2017/01/of-riddles-and-regulae-thoughts-on.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Monday, January 9, 2017. Of Riddles and Regulae: Thoughts on Ecclesiology, Canon, and Theological Method. This post is response, elaboration, and provocation to my blessed acquaintance Proto on a series he wrote on Fundamentalism, Modernity, and Biblicism ( 1. The rest of this post will try to think this through. Some of the earliest Christian writers and defenders, fighting with their interlocutors, appealed to what is called the regula fidei. Shane ...

Fiat Iustitia: Nothing like the 50's: Nihilism and the Golden Years
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2015/10/nothing-like-50s-nihilism-and-golden.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Thursday, October 1, 2015. Nothing like the 50's: Nihilism and the Golden Years. I was a fan of the show Mad Men. The play is a chronicle in a bar in Nowhere, Kansas where a strange cast have a series of complex relations, all while waiting for a winter storm to pass by. The question raised is what love is. It reminded me a lot of the mood of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Anyway, without getting into the details of the play, it, like Mad Men.

Fiat Iustitia: Predestined for Beauty
http://lettherebejustice.blogspot.com/2016/01/predestined-for-beauty.html
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Thursday, January 7, 2016. It was not only in Saint Hildegar's visions but in many others that hell's vivid chambers of horrors became so much more interesting than the bland delights of heaven" -Daniel J. Boorstin. This post, continuing along with the last, is part dogmatic and part autobiographical. I must confess that I have reconsidered some of my earlier opinions of St. Augustine. One does not need to reject Augustine's emphasis on the active and...
