Friday, May 15, 2015. No towing today as the skies were cloudy with rain showers in advance of the front approaching from the south. Instead we went to Dried Meat Ridge, near Double Dam golf course, to play in the SE winds. It was a bit too cross to fly the main ridge but there was a section that was doable. So the guys hiked or kited their gliders over and played for a couple of hours. Dried Meat Ridge on a cloudy day. Posted by Nicole McLearn. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Send me an email.

Sunday, June 14, 2015. My new glider showed up this weekend so it was time to take her out to Bridal to get acquainted! Heading for Cheam peak from the Butterfly. Mt. Baker in the background. Got high both days (more so than normal for the FV this time of year), yesterday enough to overfly Cheam peak, and today we were in orbit at 3100 m. Lots of wind both days: yesterday strong SW down low and light NE up high, and today it was strong outflow all over. It was *cold* up there today! Send me an email.

Nicole McLearn's blog: Summer Solstice Epicness in Pemberton!
http://www.nicolemclearn.com/2015/06/summer-solstice-epicness-in-pemberton.html
Monday, June 22, 2015. Summer Solstice Epicness in Pemberton! Longest day of the year and perfect paragliding weather for Pemberton. Light winds (and I mean really light! And high cloudbase, plus oodles of sun-hours, meant pilots went everywhere! We had pilots up the Hurley FSR, Ryan River valley, Rutherford valley, to Whistler and back, and over Currie. Lots of pilots opted to go really deep, km's from any usuable LZ's or roads, and it was all because the winds were so light it didn't really matter!

Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Windy Camrose May 13. I was towing and driving today so no flying for me, although there wasn't much flying for the PG's in any case with the 50 kph gusts rolling through ;) It finally died down enough around 4pm at which point Brett got away for 43 km. Will never got away, and Mario got away to 5 km (his first time getting away on tow! Bev Johns getting ready for her first tow of the day. Posted by Nicole McLearn. Links to this post. Friday, June 27, 2014. We are now in the south of France for the Ozone Chabre Open which Alex is attending. It's very much like the Okanagan in terms of heat and dryness but with much larger mountains! Unfortunately it's been windy for the past few days, either from the south or north, but today was "lightish" west. Not the best direction for Laragne so off to Seleron with the Allez-Up folks. After about 1 hour of boating around. Posted by Nicole McLearn. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. It go...

Thursday, July 31, 2014. Willi Muller XC Challenge July 31. Quite a bit of drama today as we had two accidents and a probably-averted one. #1 was a Russian tandem pilot (unrated, uninsured) with extremely sketchy and unairworthy equipment (a 21-year-old glider! Search and Rescue taking the downed PG pilot out from where he crashed on the tits. Photo courtesy of Alex Raymont. Thursday, July 18, 2013. Hiking Lost River Range, ID. From the road less traveled we take a side gravel road up to Two Springs Pass at 2300 meters through the Lost River Range just north of Mt Borah (Idahos highest peak). An earthquake in the 80s caused the valley bottom to drop 9 ft and the sheer line is still clearly visible for 20 miles. From the pass we hike through low forests to an alpine ridge with big gnarly whitebark pine trees. Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Wildlife Viewing Salmon River, ID. The me...
