Wednesday, August 05, 2015. On the home front, my mother continues to struggle with her health. I will have three kids in college at once this school year, so money has just become a concept with me. I get it, it goes. At least when the kids were little the expenses were a lot less. I did get out to play some poker with cokeboy99. A week and a half ago. He tells the story that I hate to repeat: I got my butt kicked. Fortunately, he had a good night, so there was at least one positive on the night.

Struggling with Letting Go. Sunday, July 05, 2015. Struggling with Letting Go. Dealing with negative things in life is never easy. I have found, however, that having negative experiences sometimes prepares you to handle other difficult tasks. At least that was the lesson I learned several years ago from my pastor, Fr. Tony Trosley. The life may seem good on the outside - poker, vacations, a nice job and great family. On the inside, however, the heart is breaking. Posted by lightning36 at 10:46 PM. We hav...

Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Do you like to accumulate things? Is having a type of tournament that I've not played in before. It's called the July Accumulator Series. I think I'll go to St. Petersburg and play and see how I like it. If all goes well, I'll try again so as to bag twice to have a shot on Sunday. I'm going to play at least once more and try to get a second stack to combine with this to have a reasonable shot on Sunday, Day 2. Update No. 2:. Undate No. 3:. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. One final night in Memphis. Friday, July 24, 2015. One final night in Memphis. After three great nights in New Orleans, it was time to leave The Big Easy and head back north. With a 12-hour drive back home, it had been an easy decision to plan one more night in Memphis on the trip back to Illinois. This time, however, I upgraded our Memphis hotel accommodations to the Sheraton Memphis Downtown after getting a pretty good rate on Hotwire. The food was great, however, and of course, so was the beer. I stil...

Wednesday, July 15, 2015. We were all pretty tired when we got to Memphis and the kids declined to go to the National Civil Rights Museum at that time. It looks like we will do it on Saturday on the return trip. We stayed at a relatively dumpy (but inexpensive) Sleep Inn that I had stayed at several times. Popular opinion was that we should not stay there on the return trip. Instead we will stay at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown, which will certainly be more popular with the kids. Next post: The Big Easy.

Thursday, July 09, 2015. Today was certainly a bittersweet day as my family got together to have one last fun afternoon together with our pet dog, Ginger. Tomorrow, unfortunately, we will all meet at the vet's office to be with Ginger when she is put to sleep. Over the course of this blog, Ginger has been mentioned a few times and even had her picture posted. Where did it all begin? Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and fait...She s...

Chicago . Memphis . New Orleans. Monday, July 13, 2015. Chicago . Memphis . New Orleans. Sunday was a beautiful day in Chicago. The temperature during the game was around 75 degree and there was a nice little wind blowing. Unfortunately, the Cubs beat the White Sox 3-1, which greatly pleased thundering36, a die-hard Cubs fan. I am sure he enjoyed sitting at the game a little more than I did today. Posted by lightning36 at 4:27 AM. Do the voodoo tours in New Orleans that SHEEEEEEEIT is scary at night.
