It would make a fantastic starter for two or served as a main dish for one. You could use what ever pasta suits you but I managed to find this amazing gluten free black bean pasta the other day and love it for its firm bite. Al dente cooked spaghetti would be the best alternative. Chilli and lemon pasta. Serves 1 as a generous main or 2 as an entrée. 1 onion or half a leek.

It has to be my favourite. Whether it’s between layers of sponge or simply devoured from a bowl, when it comes to sweets, there’s nothing better. It as often as I’d like – though the saying ‘never trust a skinny chef’ comes to mind! Yes, it’s simply heaven. Strawberries and cream layer cake. 3/4 cup caster sugar. Juice of 1/2 lemon.

I’d say this is man food, but I know way too many girls, including myself, that would devour this. It only takes a few minutes to prepare, then you simply leave in the oven to slow roast for three hours. Serve with fries and salad. 1/2 cup BBQ sauce. 1/4 cup tomato sauce. 3 tbsp soy sauce. 400 ml boiling water.

What Cat Cooked…. Food I'm growing, cooking, eating and dreaming about. Corn cakes with smoked trout and yoghurt. I whipped these up super quickly because I wanted to use up some corn in the fridge. They don’t take much longer to make than pikelets and my little one year old loved them without the toppings. The buttermilk makes them really moist and adds a savory flavour. We had them for brunch but would equally make a great lunch as they are really filling. Corn cakes with smoked trout and yoghurt.
