Wednesday, November 01, 2006. End of Season for the Knockout Roses. Now that we have had our first frost, the Knockout Roses will finally stop growing, well, I think they will at least. They still have some buds on them and some flowers, but I bet they're about spent for the year. I look forward to watching them branch out more next Spring, but I am very happy with the plants so far. Posted by Tammy and Ian @ 11:45 AM. Links to this post. Posted by Tammy and Ian @ 11:39 AM. The Asheville Gardener: March 2006

Wednesday, March 29, 2006. The Road to Laurel Springs. I love those old "The Road to ." movies with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour ( whose name I can never remember. I always hope Bob Hope will get the girl in the end, but Bing always wins, well except for the one time when Bob Hope hypnotized Dorothy Lamour and kind of won her. Oh, well . I guess Bing had the charisma back in those days, goofy ears and all. Posted by Tammy and Ian @ 3:52 PM. Links to this post. Monday, March 27, 2006. We remov...

The Asheville Gardener: August 2006

Wednesday, August 16, 2006. I think the roses would be growing even more if it weren't for the caladiums hogging their sunshine. I don't even water them very often and they're still taking over! They are gorgeous from the road too. When we replace the railroad ties with a rock wall, we are going to increase the depth of the bed by a foot or so to allow the caladiums more room next year. The roses are currently tolerating the caladiums crowding in on them, but I doubt they appreciate the intrusion. I am s...

The Asheville Gardener: September 2006

Tuesday, September 26, 2006. It's grown quite a bit since I bought it, and I am wondering what to do with it when Winter hits. I guess I need to bring it in the house? Thursday, April 26, 2007. Sowing Early Seeds Outdoors. Some seeds can be sown outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. We sowed our early seeds near the end of March. We purchased the seeds from Park's Seeds. Here is a brief summary of my experience with the seeds and my recommendations. Excellent Success Rate - Highly Recommend. Super Sugar Snap Pea. They are still growing steadfastly, and I expect some good beans from this crop. Organic Lettuce Salad Bowl Mix. Onion Yellow Granex Hybrid 33. I sowed ...

The Asheville Gardener: June 2006

Wednesday, June 14, 2006. The roses in the right bed are growing like crazy. This is surprising since we spent so much more time preparing the soil in the left bed, but the roses in the right bed do seem to get more sun. I guess it's just a learning experience. Kitty Moo-Moo is currently my star performer. If all my roses were growing like Kitty Moo-Moo, the garden would be grand. Posted by Tammy and Ian @ 11:50 AM. Links to this post.
