February 2, 2009. On new modes of mathematical collaboration. Filed under: Teaching and learning: dissemination and assimilation. 8212; vipulnaik @ 10:28 pm. This blog post builds upon some of the observations I made in an earlier blog post on Google, Wikipedia and the blogosphere. But unlike that post, has a more substantive part dedicated to analysis. It also builds on the previous post, Can the Internet destroy the University? I recently came across Michael Nielsen’s website. The Future of Science.

July 7, 2009. Extensible automorphisms problem solved long ago. Filed under: My research. 8212; vipulnaik @ 10:00 pm. Some friends as well as other regular readers of this blog may remember that I mentioned the extensible automorphisms problem. If an automorphism of a group can be extended to any group containing it, must that automorphism be inner? I had managed to prove this for finite groups. And had drafted a short paper with that and some other related results. My advisor George Glauberman. And othe...

http://brianshaocat.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
(Atom). Kaleidoscope: April 2010
http://figments-of-the-mind.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Reporting on the reflections I see in this palace of mirrors called life. Monday, April 19, 2010. I rarely take serious note of any political event in India. Definitely not seriously enough to write a blog about. And never have I blogged about any one single person centric event. But this time with this forced resignation of Sashi Tharoor, I am seriously perturbed. The basic point that is far from clear is, what is the crime? In no allegation that I hear people putting up against him is there a crime!

Reporting on the reflections I see in this palace of mirrors called life. Friday, October 30, 2009. An article that TIFR student magazine "Imagine" did not publish. I am dis illusioned. Among many other expected abilities missing from the editors they definitely seemed to lack an understanding of the sensitivities of authors.}. These are those times when I really feel the importance of open-access movement and the great need for blogs in this society when I am faced with the extreme ghetoism. The article...

Reporting on the reflections I see in this palace of mirrors called life. Friday, February 19, 2010. I recently observed that neither on my home-page nor on my blog I had ever written about my adventures in Germany 2 years ago when I went there as a part of the Indian delegation to the Lindau Nobel Laureates-Students interaction program. I was selected to that meeting towards the end of my 3yr BSc.(Hons.) degree in CMI. It is a joint program between DFG. Never mind the many "." in the mails. The boat tri...

Reporting on the reflections I see in this palace of mirrors called life. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Homi Bhabha Centenary Symposium, Examination systematics and Ramakrishna Mission. Let me just jot down a few things that have been intriguing me off-late from my latest trajectories of life. The topics covered are in this sequence. 1 Homi Bhabha Centenary Symposium. 2 Examination systematics (inspired from the state in TIFR). First 9 reflections about the Homi Bhaba Symposium lectures that are going on in...

What Is Research?
Questions about research that have been bugging me, that I've been figuring out: how do we choose the topic of research? What goes into research? Where, when, how, and why is research done? What does it really mean and what does it entail? Monday, March 31, 2008. The blog has moved here, to Wordpress. The old blog entries will be removed soon, so check in at the new location!
