What I've learnt so far…. The lessons my Year Abroad has taught me so far. What I’ve learnt on Day 344…. What I’ve learnt on Day 347…. September 4, 2014. Said hostel provides free bikes to explore the city, which is such a great idea. As Barcelona is full of bike lanes too, it’s surprisingly stress-free (or at least it is once you’ve found where the bike lane begins.). If you decide to do some hostel hopping as we did (which I would fully recommend as it’s a great way of getting to know different p...

What I've learnt so far…. The lessons my Year Abroad has taught me so far. Newer posts →. What I’ve learnt on Day 248…. June 7, 2014. Feria is the second big annual spring-time festival that happens in Seville. Unlike the sombre religious mourning of Semana Santa however, it’s very much a fiesta! The week begins with the turning on of the lights of the enormous gate at midnight. The gate is erected every year and always has a different theme. The atmosphere at the Feria is incredible: thousands of people...

What I've learnt so far…. The lessons my Year Abroad has taught me so far. What I’ve learnt on Day 347…. September 4, 2014. When arriving in the centre of a city you’ve never been to at 11.30pm, you’d be forgiven for just blindly following GPS to your hostel. Sadly, if your phone is completely idiotic it will take you to the correct number building but on the wrong street. Meaning you end up at a Chinese restaurant […]. What I’ve learnt on Day 344…. By luck, I managed to coincide my stay in Mallorca with the town’s annual week long fiesta and going with a family from the town means you see it in a whole different light- from the eyes of a local rather than a tourist. A night of live bands, dancing, singing and breaks for crêpe eating until dawn. Enter your comment here.

Mallorca is a lovely island, full of surprises: amazingly friendly and open people, delicious food and stunning beaches, pretty ports and charming pedestrianised walled towns. Having lost count of the numerous beaches I’ve been to on the island (we go most days and almost always to a different one), I’ve worked ...Early mor...

Rachel goes abroad!: Noooon, je ne regrette rien...

Sunday, 29 June 2014. Noooon, je ne regrette rien. So, we're approaching the end. We're on the home stretch. I return to rainy old England in less than two weeks ( where on earth has the time gone? I worked my final day as Kelly's stagiaire. And left the infamous coworking office behind ( coworking. Fond farewell to the office door. Me (on looking outside and seeing the blazing sunshine): Aw, the weather's so lovely! Exactly the right weather for Pimm's. Coworker 2: You mean the biscuits? This last week ...

http://yearabroadfuntimes.blogspot.com/2014/05/coasting-through-life-in-france.html
Tuesday, 13 May 2014. Coasting through life in France. What I did there? Breaking news: I'm still alive! And I've not fallen off the face of the earth or been forcibly denied internet access this whole time. Nope, turns out I'm just a lazy blogger. Secret's out. Which I guess is a good thing. But nonetheless it's probably about time for a Rachel's-life-update, so here you are. Oh yeah, I moved house! What more could I want? That's right, nothing. So this isn't actually a great photo, but that's the beach...

Rachel goes abroad!: October 2013
http://yearabroadfuntimes.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Monday, 14 October 2013. Hedgehogs, High Jinx and a Happy, Happy Birthday! So, important news first: The Reichelts have HEDGEHOGS. They found three baby hedgehogs without a mother who would not have survived in the wild, and and took them home to look after throughout the winter. Unglaublich süß! Now, down to business. On Saturday, it was birthday time! Not my birthday of course, we've still got another month to wait! The night was finally rounded off when someone. After an (accidentally) extremely lazy ...

Rachel goes abroad!: BIARRITZ!!!
http://yearabroadfuntimes.blogspot.com/2014/03/biarritz.html
Tuesday, 4 March 2014. I'm feeling too tired and boring to think up a punny post title today, but I will at some point, I promise! So, as you probably guessed from the title of this post, I have officially arrived in my second year-abroad destination: Biarritz. "Where? You ask. Good question. I had no idea either until I accepted the job here (about 3 weeks before my placement was due to start - last minute, anyone? Travelling there was quite an undertaking! Bit different to how I imagined. What's more, ...

A teary farewell to the land of sauerkraut and schnitzel, to embark on my three-day drive to Biarritz in south-west France. Final time seeing most of the other assistants (how I’ll miss you even more! Rachel goes abroad!: November 2013
http://yearabroadfuntimes.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, 21 November 2013. So, a couple of weeks ago, Year Abroad Fever (of the travelling variety) struck again, and saw me and my friend Isobel planning a ganz spontan. Bonn is nice :). I have to confess, this change of plans suited me nicely, not least because it gave me an excuse to think of a punny post title (let's face it, Luxembourg just doesn't lend itself well to this type of humour), as well as that hideous (but brilliant, admit it) atrocity above (Bring it Bonn! All crammed into a warehouse.

There might be a quiz.), and another week closer to my impending departure, about which my head is stuck firmly in the metaphorical sand. Monday, 24 March 2014. A Week in the Life Bus Troubles. So, I've been in France now for three weeks! Time's flying by so fast I can almost hear it! Now, I realise I haven't mentioned too much about what my job is actually like. So, without further ado. Tah daaah! I've written an account of my first week as a translation intern for Third Year Abroad (though I had to cut about half the words out to stop it being monstrously long). So, yeah! This success (I wrote a thing for the internet! The bus drove off ...

LessonsLearned
Sunday, 15 June 2014. More than anything, I think I've gotten bored of hearing it - how useless I am that is. How vain, how selfish, how superficial. Kind of ironic when you think of the work I've done. I'm pretty sure I get a carte blanche in areas where other have to prove themselves. Do we just have to keep going back to our most dreaded past until we get it right? IS that why L is going back to her family in S'land? Like moths to the flame? Do we have to accept it to get past it? How did I get here?

In that book which is My memory...
Friday, August 26, 2011. Just wanted to take a moment to plug my goodreads. Page I'm gearing up to review a massive amount of books (all that I've read since April) in the next month or so. If you love YA fiction, you're going to love what is coming. My real passion is reading (not blogging, but you probably already guessed that with my lackluster blogs), so come on over and check it out. Posted by J. Elle. Tuesday, August 23, 2011. My parents watch our son for us while we are at work during the day.

A Journey Through the Bible
A Journey Through the Bible. In 2010, I plan to read the entire bible using the M'Cheyne One-Year Reading Plan. It's my hope that by reading God's word on a daily basis, I will know God better. As time allows, I hope to journal my notes, questions and observations for anyone who cares to follow. Friday, December 31, 2010. Dec 31 - Finished. While my journaling slowed down the last couple months of the year, my reading did not. I finished! 2 God is to be feared - by all. I discovered that I had (and s...

My Ottawa: What I've written lately for the Ottawa Citizen.
