Whatmightnot

Wednesday, 26 October 2011. Shower matters (I wonder if this post manages to be apolitical). There are small things in life that seem inappropriate at first to blog about. The intimacy of your private shower for instance seems as such and once again I am led to believe this derives from some false sense of decency, which concepts probably stem from a cultural heritage of bigotry. Whatmightnot: 'Peoples of Europe, Rise Up!'

http://www.whatmightnot.blogspot.com/2010/05/peoples-of-europe-rise-up.html

Thursday, 6 May 2010. Peoples of Europe, Rise Up! Here is a story, sort of hypothetical but perhaps rather real. Let’s say that you are a janitor of a cooperative housing estate. You are entrusted to run the finances on the estate as well. Every so often the residents vote to keep you in position or put someone else there. To make sure the residents feel they are getting something you can buy them free plants and contribute to their new patios. Now, you and your coop are owned, literally. I understand, t...

Sunday, 2 May 2010. This has all changed when by some weird acci. Dent a socialist poster came to my view with its somehow desperate cry for attention among the possibly hundreds of vappu invitations to parties and cheap drinks o all kind. I think there wer. E at least some200 people although I usually underestimate in fear of overestimating. The crowd dutifully lined up, ready to go, police escort comfortably on the front followed by the Finnish flag. This flag, marching in front of a socialist crowd.

Whatmightnot: bad memories

http://www.whatmightnot.blogspot.com/2010/12/bad-memories.html

Sunday, 12 December 2010. Of course there are troublemakers in crowds but they and I press they should be dealt with. Collective punishment, which is what now being exercised even before actions ‘worthy of punishing’ (I don’t believe in punishment by the way) take place. Collective punishment is a tell tale of militarist, authoritarian, dictatoric regimes, particularly fascist ones among which perhaps the Nazis lead with the industrialization of such practice. Szeged: January 2011

http://gvalter-szeged.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 January 2011. I haven’t had tonsillitis for a good four years but I used to have it rather regularly. One asks if penicillin wasn’t an easily accessible drug would I always have come out of it? The counterargument of course that if it wasn’t overprescribed would one truly need it all the time? And I had not made a political statement yet at this point therefore this blog is apolitical. Monday, 24 January 2011. There goes my new found idealism about free market completion. A new hobby has taken...

Monday, 30 May 2011. We have taken another leap. A different kind. I am learning new things to get along with our car. It seems I have been being overprotective. Now I know, I need to give it some air. but this isn’t the leap. Our time here since we arrived is rather pleasant. I don’t get to do much though as the car is gone, and Ernest need to be kept an eye on in the garden. I filled up the little paddling pool with water for him, he gathered some flower-heads and petals into it and spent...It is our c...

http://gvalter-szeged.blogspot.com/2011/05/may-26th-27th.html

Friday, 27 May 2011. May 26th - 27th. We have been psyching ourselves for some days now to take the leap. I think I am almost into it now, on a kind of. 8216;just do it’ slogan. For once I could make my parents happy. In the past year or so they haven’t failed to let me know they believe my inability to integrate has a great deal to do with me. Especially a particular quality of mine. It is now the day to remove this obstacle. We have started planning our route to the far north. For a long time we on...

Saturday, 21 May 2011. May 21st - this is it? We thought we will solve our financial challenges (PC) by good old fashioned capitalist enterprise. Szeged is full of secondhand clothes shop that claim to sell top quality ’english’ clothes. We have a lot of top quality second hand ‘english’ brand clothes. Especially children’s clothes. Our first capitalist venture so far is a failure. I bought a lottery ticket just in case we can avoid tomorrow’s market day. Jen has printed a whole bunch of si...I had an in...

Thursday, 21 October 2010. Staying at my mother’s place outside Fot near to Budapest we have been contemplating the issue of Americannes of contemporary Hungarian society. There is probably a lot more to it than our surface examinations make us realise this but there are some aspects that probably resemble a hint of reality. How Stargate Universe does come into this? And how shall I turn this toward Szeged? The recent Local Council elections. 8216;So how does it feel to be home? We have been in Hungary f...

What Might Be Written | Reflections on life and faith

What Might Be Written. Reflections on life and faith. Seventeen year old Sasha shares her story. My parents separated when I was very young and my Dad moved to America. I think my mum coped by keeping busy and so she was constantly working. This meant I grew up with babysitters: one babysitter after another, a love that came and went. I learnt to rely on my older sister. She was my support and my love and my best friend. He spoke of this hope, that there was more to life than what I currently knew. S...
