chungkingexpress: October 2007
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 30, 2007. I'm sure that London is the middle of the world. I went to an Afghani concert last Friday and Congolese the week before. And I discovered that I'm not the only white person who thinks they can do a bit of soukous dancing. I've been taking afternoon coffee breaks at a Portugese cafe. Near work but I'm now thinking of sharing myself with the Palestinian Cafe across the road, owned by the son of one of my students. And for Pip (and others? Here is the exposing. I was invited for a...

I also planted some climbing bean seeds to go up my frame. the runner beans (which I don’t really like, but its good to see something grow! Have started making a bid for freedom and once my potatoes go out, I’m going to plant some dwarf beans and maybe the borlotti seed I have saved from last year. One response so far. Isn’t this clever? | Katie and her mental meanderings

Katie and her mental meanderings. Katie meanders all over the world and all over the shop. Isn’t this clever? February 23, 2011. I decided a while ago to try Illusion Knitting. It’s a very clever way of making a pattern, but you can only see it from some angles. Spooky, eh? Anyway I’ve written a pattern for an illusion scarf with a GirlGuiding Trefoil on it. This is what it looks like on the person:. And this is what it looks like when you view the illusion bit from just the right angle:. I do love felt.

chungkingexpress: Moving
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2008/10/moving.html
Saturday, October 18, 2008. Apologies to anyone who has been visiting this blog in vain. I've become pretty irregular lately and have decided to close down chungkingexpress for a while and make it password protected. I'm not done with writing though and I'm planning to start up a new blog themed on my stay in a Rajasthani village. My aim is to write once a week and write well. I'm not quite ready to put a first post up but I'd love any comments on how it looks so far:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

chungkingexpress: I take the bus
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2008/09/i-take-bus.html
Friday, September 05, 2008. I take the bus. Since I'm working Saturdays, I get to take a 5 day holiday in lieu each month. I just took my first one to Jaipur and Delhi. Much to my colleagues' displeasure, I insisted on giving up the car I'm supposed to be provided with and travelling by bus. Apart from environmental objections, I was in desparate need of a little independence. I caught up and ran along banging the side of the bus. The door opened and I jumped in, almost collapsing in relief at the si...

chungkingexpress: Cooking
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2008/09/cooking.html
Monday, September 22, 2008. On my last trip to Jaipur I picked up a few cooking supplies. My cook, Shankar, can manage with no chopping board and a knife that looks like it's meant for buttering bread but I can't. I bought the best knife I could find. It's so good that it's very likely to raise suspicion about what I'm cutting. After 2 months of very bland curry, it was great to taste the actual vegetables that I was eating. Eating greens that still had some crunch was bliss. And rice that had a ...Shank...

chungkingexpress: Now reporting from India: Oh my gourd
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2008/08/now-reporting-from-india-oh-my-gourd.html
Sunday, August 17, 2008. Now reporting from India: Oh my gourd. Due to local laws, I have now been pure veg for over three weeks. Not only have I not had meat, eggs or alcohol, I pretty much haven't eaten anything that doesn't come from this stall or an identical one opposite. My cook does his best but there's only so much taste you can get out of a bitter melon and a few spices. Yay to the revival of your blog! Is this law based on Hindu faith? And more importantly, does it last forever? Haha oh poor du...

chungkingexpress: August 2007
http://chungkingexpress.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 31, 2007. My neighbours are such a miserable lot of people. There are about five people in the whole building who will even reply when I say hello. Meanwhile, I'm the most civic minded person in this whole council block. I've taken on sole responsibility for cleaning the common areas of our floor (see photo in last post). I'm at war with rodents which I didn't attract. My balcony garden is a credit to the building. I set an example of cleanliness in the rubbish room. Monday, August 27, 2007.
