Whatsitgarden

Saturday, August 15, 2015. Blooms in August…. Here is a look from with in my new planting area , it's filled in nicely. Not only that, but looking on the ground I can see many , many new seedlings appearing , that means another round of Cerinthe major. I took this looking out my sunroom window this morning. Bronze fennel, Helenium , various Agastache and Phlox. This little charmer I found nestled within the micro climate of the shade garden. Join Carol for many more August blooms. Links to this post.

Friday, July 24, 2015. Aah…Vebena rigida , I think anyway. I've been scratching my head over this plant all spring. I thought I'd planted Erigeron . Which I did , you can see the Santa Barbara daisy spring up all around . A case of seed mixup somewhere along the pricking and repotting process. July 24, 2015 at 11:26 AM. Whatsitgarden: August 2015

http://www.whatsitgarden.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 24, 2015. Deep within the shade garden. I nearly missed this bloom , Anemonopsis macrophylla, sitting deep in the shade garden . I had to crawl under to get a look. It would be much happier in a cooler climate . I keep it well watered and surrounded by cool foliage. It seems to take all spring and summer for it to bloom. They don't last long in this heat! And while I was scrambling along I found this little clump of Colchiums. Links to this post. Wednesday, August 19, 2015. The bloomers ar...

Monday, April 20, 2015. A shady seating area…. I've been working on a seating area to escape the late afternoon heat . The east facing side of the shed seemed the perfect spot. So, last summer I did a bit of aggressive tree and old shrub removal and left it till now. You can just make out the two chairs in the top left corner. Here we are , the new shady seating area . Whatsitgarden: Re-graveling the gravel ...

http://www.whatsitgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/re-graveling-gravel.html

Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Re-graveling the gravel . One of those jobs that needed doing, but have put off till now. But then I couldn't be hauling gravel in 90 temps. I only got a 1/4 yard of pea gravel , which was just enough to give everything a nice thick layer. I really wanted to re contour all the paths. And that I did, pulling out as I went along. The paths now are much wider , it was mostly sedum that went, it does take over . I've been organizing the Carex , by color. August 5, 2015 at 6:12 PM.

The Rainy Day Gardener: March 2015

http://www.therainydaygardener.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Organically Growing in the Willamette Neighborhood of West Linn, Oregon - Zone 8b. Thursday, March 26, 2015. Despite our warm winter, it was so nice to officially move into Spring. The soil is warming, buds are swelling and lawn mowers are humming on the weekends. I love spring because it is the season where color comes to life again. Miracle' Heuchera paired with Dicentra spectabilis. Now, isn't this a pretty vignette? Last year I purchased two Forget-me-Nots and they spread their seeds all over my gard...

Organically Growing in the Willamette Neighborhood of West Linn, Oregon - Zone 8b. Visit to The Netherlands. In the summer of 2013, I finally journeyed to The Netherlands to visit my families roots. My Opa and Oma, along with my mother, immigrated in the mid 1950's from Nunspeet, Gelderland, first to Ontario, Canada and then to the USA, finally settling in the Pacific Northwest. We felt right at home and it was hard to say good bye. Here are the blog posts in which I share my visit:. Pacific NW Bloggers ...

Friday, May 31, 2013. Schefflera-land, all planted up…. When last I posted about Schefflera-land. It had just earned the name after having been planted up with both S. delavayi and S. taiwaniana. Since then I’ve been busy adding to the plantings and I’m happy to say things are filling in nicely…. And the prized Schefflera delavayi will attain its rightful status as king of the border sooner rather than later. The S. taiwaniana has a couple of years on it though. I love the blue hostas! The Rainy Day Gardener: A Spot of Rain

http://www.therainydaygardener.com/2015/07/a-spot-of-rain.html

Organically Growing in the Willamette Neighborhood of West Linn, Oregon - Zone 8b. Sunday, July 26, 2015. A Spot of Rain. Sweet July rainfall. We have suffered here in the Pacific Northwest from abnormally hot, summer temperatures with little trace of rainfall since late May. However, we had rain showers yesterday as a low trough moved over the region and it holds today as well. Another chance of rain and maybe thunderstorms tonight to possibly drench our thirsty lands. Echinacea sombrero hot coral.

Garden bloggers’ spring swap – sprig to twig. May 7, 2015. Garden bloggers’ spring swap. Ask most gardeners and they will say that they are shy introverts. You wouldn’t know it if you dropped in to one of our get-togethers, where the groupings are lively and newcomers are quickly assimilated into happy-making plant talk. It doesn’t hurt to have a host like Patricia ( Plant Lust. Seen here flanked on the left by Heather ( Just a Girl With a Hammer. And on the right by Loree ( Danger Garden. There are stil...

Open garden – sprig to twig. June 10, 2016. ANLD garden tour coming up. Devised as a way to showcase the artistry of its members, this tour has it all. Swoon-worthy plants shown off to best advantage in creative combinations (those fish swimming through a sea of grasses in the background are an example of the way art is incorporated into the gardens). Often the plants can be seen playing ingeniously with elements of the built environment. Clever ideas to swipe and make your own abound. August 7, 2015.
