FatSprat: April 2013
http://fatsprat.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Only dead fish go with the flow. Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Dyeing to Print II: Solar dyes. And even easier than Hapa Zome ecoprinting is the technique of Solar Dyeing. This is done with a natural fabric, your leaves, flowers, seeds, berries etc, water and sealable jars, and you need plenty of patience because this technique requires time to brew. It feels a bit witchy, having potions on my deck in the sun. Links to this post. Monday, April 15, 2013. Dyeing to Print I: Hapa Zome. Links to this post. From p...

Only dead fish go with the flow. Sunday, August 4, 2013. Why I rip dolls heads off. People think I'm a tad on the strange side when I tell them I rip the heads of dollies. Can't think why? No doubt those same people may be offended by my treatment of Jesus and the Madonna as well. This latest assemblage is influenced by the Mexican Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos, a religious holiday related to the Catholic All Saints Day, honoring those that have gone before us and celebrating their lives. Please re...

FatSprat: January 2014
http://fatsprat.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Only dead fish go with the flow. Tuesday, January 21, 2014. One thing I've learned from assemblage artists is that you can pretty much use anything to build your assemblage on. Take Ron Pippin for example, an artist of genius proportions. He created an entire work built on a Kayak. And here's one from Michael Demeng from, well you can see what he uses. Seems like you are limited only by your imagination. So here I took an idea from a Michael Demeng workshop entitled Good Brushes Gone Bad. Snips and Snail...

FatSprat: Major fail on the to-do list...
http://fatsprat.blogspot.com/2015/02/major-fail-on-to-do-list.html
Only dead fish go with the flow. Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Major fail on the to-do list. I started the year by making a list of all the projects I needed to finish. There were 10 things on that list, quite a few, so I did a deal with myself to get them completed before I started on new projects. A few weeks later I'd whittled it down to 7 and I felt pretty pleased with my progress. Then those godamn shiny monkeys came along. Have you met shiny monkeys? I started a new project. I just adore this fabric.

Only dead fish go with the flow. Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Last few months I've been playing around with dyeing fabrics and paper with leaves, India Flint. Style The muted salmon pinks and browns along with vintage lace and vintage found objects, old jewellry, form into a book that has an aged and worn look about it (much like myself). Here is the result, an embellished journal made entirely by hand stitching with a long-stitch binding. Page print - Eucalyptus leaves. Links to this post. This sample is f...

Only dead fish go with the flow. Saturday, July 5, 2014. It's been a while folks. From March to about one week ago I've been heads down and bum up on University studies, which has left me desperate for creative time. Infuriating, frustrating and downright depressing,. Then I got a commission to make a guest wedding book through Discover Me. And paper feels sooooo good. So here's the book for Claire, and her man. And here's to school holidays where I can have time to make more stuff. Links to this post.

FatSprat: Virtual exhibition
http://fatsprat.blogspot.com/2014/08/virtual-exhibition.html
Only dead fish go with the flow. Friday, August 1, 2014. I was fortunate to be an exhibitor in this year's Auckland Festival of Photography, in a signature show called Matakana Images at RD6 in Matakana. I exhibited a set of contrived and deadpan images, with the intention that the viewer would make up their own narrative. Here are my four images. September 1, 2014 at 1:29 PM. What interesting and compelling images Karen. Go on, make a comment. I dont bite. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Only dead fish go with the flow. Saturday, August 2, 2014. The Quilt Restoration Project - Part I. We had a few laugh over that quilt, the hexagons developed some strange dimensions as the quilt grew and there are some very strange shapes, with uneven sides. I guess those uneven hexagons make up the narrative of that quilt, and have become endearing and lovable qualities. Us three, and my grandad Fred. Circa 1967 before Quilt! I have a kind offer of help from the owner of the Pukeko Patch. Thanks to my f...
