Waking Up in Portland: Forgiveness
http://wakingupinportland.blogspot.com/2010/03/forgiveness.html
Waking Up in Portland. Sometimes I wonder how my perfectly planned life became so perfectly un-planned. The only thing I know for certain is that tomorrow, I will be waking up in Portland. I suppose even that is a crap shoot, but the odds are pretty darn good, and for now, that's enough. Saturday, March 20, 2010. Friday morning, that white noise gave birth to Forgiveness. I have met Forgiveness before. I often refuse to listen to Forgiveness. It’s too hard. Forgiveness asks me to do this especially.

Muse of South Prairie: October 2012
http://museofsouthprairie.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Muse of South Prairie. Thursday, October 4, 2012. Ever have a day where everything goes awry, one damn thing after another? Where if you were smart, you’d go back to bed, but you’re washing the bedding because the cat puked in it, so you can’t? So, I place my coffee, banana, and zucchini bread on the—WHAT? Well, what did YOU have for breakfast, Mr. Ding-Dong and Tootsie Pop? At least MY breakfast had a vegetable in it. No cat’s ever been killed by a pile of towels, I reason. I sop and mop. Transporti...

Ray was sixty-five and pinning his daughter’s bed sheets to a clothesline the bed sheets of his daughter who died last night. Sobering, he thought, was this year, in which he retired from the paper company and lost his only child. She was forty, his daughter. He met his daughter at her work every day for lunch, and one day she said, I’m pregnant. But you’re thirty-nine, he said. I already decided, she said, to keep it. That’s the second time I’ve seen you cry, she said. He brought his daughter home, and ...

Muse of South Prairie: March 2011
http://museofsouthprairie.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Muse of South Prairie. Sunday, March 20, 2011. I am stunned and dismayed by all the political attacks against teachers and education programs this spring, instigated by those who say out one side of their mouths education is important and needs more funding, and then out the other side of their mouths defund what they say should be improved. Huh? Am I living in the Brave New World? 1984, with all this Doublespeak? I'm saddened to learn that something that works may be no more, that teachers searching for...

Muse of South Prairie: July 2011
http://museofsouthprairie.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Muse of South Prairie. Friday, July 22, 2011. Giggling Gophers and Gutt. I’ve been plagued with gophers this summer, like every other summer here at Happy House Farm. Usually I employ a gopher getter who traps for me $10 a gopher or mole. I think it’s a great deal, but at the start of summer he had carpal tunnel surgery, so I was left to fend for myself. She had dispatched 26 moles with it the summer before. She told me where to buy one and I bought one. I set it up and waited. I waited a long time.

Muse of South Prairie: December 2011

Muse of South Prairie. Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Remembrance of My Dad. My father, Ernest George Keltz, died December 15, 2011, at the age of 90. This is what I read at his funeral:. Philosophers have long tried to determine what qualities make the measure of a man. I think all they need do is gather at a celebration of his life, like this one, to know the answer. Such wonderful posts by grandchildren JC, Courtney, Kathy, Sean and more to come, I’m sure. Another quality our father demonstrated was that...

I suppose even that is a crap shoot, but the odds are pretty darn good, and for now, that's enough. Thursday, January 31, 2008. The Lama, however, did. At a group meditation one day, he asked for someone to explain it to him. Not a new question, and yet, it was one that no one answered for the Lama. There is a God.
