Cucurbits vs. the Allium gang – The Measured Farmer
https://themeasuredfarmer.wordpress.com/2014/05/10/cucurbits-vs-the-allium-gang
May 10, 2014. Cucurbits vs. the Allium gang. I say sir, we don’t much like the look of this dirt field. This will never do, we insist you unhand us you cad! Meanwhile, there were the lean and mean Allium toughs (they come from the wrong side of the tracks you know). They don’t care about roots. We were pulling them apart right and left to get them separated into bunches of threes. “Bring it on! 8221;, they said, “We don’t need no stinkin’ potting soil around us! Yeah, Alliums are like that.

We are grateful for all of your wonderful support in our fledgling season of selling produce through the Nebraska Food Coop. It was both rewarding and humbling to take part in providing healthy food to our customers, that at the same time respects the health of the Earth. We have exciting plans for 2015:. Expand production using urban land, through partnership with the City of Lincoln and Cook Grow Sew.

Non-local local food – The Measured Farmer
https://themeasuredfarmer.wordpress.com/2014/05/29/non-local-local-food
May 29, 2014. I chose a small one open on Tuesdays called St. Mark’s Greenmarket at East 10th St and 2nd Ave. Google said it was 1.7 miles from Penn Station where my train deposited me from the airport, and I was feeling energetic, so subway shmubway, I’ll just walk! Apparently Gary has an angry about this. While we’re walking, here’s the Empire State Building. And in the distance the new World Trade Center; one building, instead of twins this time.😦. Cucurbits vs. the Allium gang. Address never made pu...

Candy in the garden – The Measured Farmer

June 9, 2014. Candy in the garden. I was looking at the arugula tonight and came across a tiny insect I hadn’t encountered before – a candy-striped leafhopper. It was only about a quarter of an inch long. There were several. Who said cooking with healthy, whole food is too much work? CSA Day →. One thought on “ Candy in the garden. June 10, 2014 at 6:14 am. The Measured Farmer – Page 2 – paths and deliberations
https://themeasuredfarmer.wordpress.com/page/2
May 3, 2014. This was my first all-day Saturday workday for the season. Common Good had their on-farm plant sale going (I bought a ton) and their annual CSA member meeting. We fed/watered the chicks and chickens. I weeded carrots and beets; hundred foot rows are long! Later when the sale was dwindling we did lots of transplanting: collards, kale, fennel, scallions. A bed of collards in their final home. Things I learned today, random order:. They direct seeded in the field. April 29, 2014. Lots of intern...

The Country Farmer? The City Farmer? – The Measured Farmer
https://themeasuredfarmer.wordpress.com/2014/04/29/the-country-farmer-the-city-farmer/comment-page-1
April 29, 2014. Lots of internal debate between farm in the country vs urban farm. Hearing incredible numbers like $50k from 1/10 acre makes me want to accept that gauntlet, what a challenge! But what about all the animals I dream of, the wind-powered flour mill, the woodlot, the lonely vistas? Someone just tell me what direction to head! Chickens Need Meth →. 2 thoughts on “ The Country Farmer? May 1, 2014 at 12:19 pm. I really like your blog, Gary. And the overarching question: Which direction? You are...
