Food: Fabulous and Fattening | Where is development?
https://whereisdevelopment.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/food-fabulous-and-fattening
India and International Development. Food: Fabulous and Fattening. Food is a weighty topic, and one I am rather passionate about. Perhaps that is why it took me five months to get around to it. Note: curry just means a combination of spices, which means every household and road-side lunch spot has its own combination and unique flavour.). The complexity and immense regional variety of Indian food is often lost in Indian restaurants in Canada. So how to describe foods whose names I can’t even remember?

From India to Italy and back in a week | Where is development?
https://whereisdevelopment.wordpress.com/2013/10/14/from-india-to-italy-and-back-in-a-week
India and International Development. From India to Italy and back in a week. By coincidence, sat down at a “Caffe India”. I had been anticipating this trip for quite some time. I was excited not so much because it was Italy (which I have been fortunate enough to visit a number of times) but because it was Europe. It’s autumn in Milan. Upon arrival at Brussels airport I received a real shock of seasonal weather it was barely 14. C) The weather in Hyderabad has been rather consistent around 30. C since I a...

Random words to keep you up to date on my southern adventures. August 30, 2013. Mose Coady in Action. Asset-Based Community Driven development is a concept originating in America, through John Kretzmann and John L. McKnight of Northwestern University (thanks to Wikipedia). While these individuals may represent a considerable amount of written work and publication of the idea, ABCD had been practiced in communities for generations. Oh ya pictures – I went for a hike with some new friends…. August 19, 2013.

Random words to keep you up to date on my southern adventures. October 1, 2013. I guess I need to blow the dust off this whole blogging thing, haven’t really been active as you may have noticed, perhaps this will rectify your sadness at the absence of my laughable words and thoughts. September just went, and October and November promise a similar result. When you end up spending a week away doing something completely unrelated to why I originally came, the month seems to get really short. So back at it!

Steph's Adventures in Addis: To the Field!
http://stephsadventuresinaddis.blogspot.com/2013/06/to-field.html
Steph's Adventures in Addis. Thursday, 20 June 2013. Yesterday I accompanied three of my colleagues to Weilso, a community aprx 100km West-ish of Addis…we were checking out the progress of a rural women’s empowerment project. Then there was another side of the privilege I felt; the one which is somewhat more daunting and harder to process. WHO THE EF AM I TO BE HERE? And why was I so lucky to be born into an incredibly supportive family? On another note, I find that when people have. If you become hooked...

Steph's Adventures in Addis. Wednesday, 30 October 2013. To the Ocean :). The smell of fresh salty air as it blows off the Ocean, how the salt feels on your skin and in your hair as you dry of in the humid weather, floating with the tide, letting your feet slowly become submerged in the sand at the edge of the shore- I argue that these are things that make anyone who grew up by the ocean feel at home. My first glimpse of Dar's Shoreline :). Hakuna Matata" Boats docked in Stonetown, Zanzibar. If you asked...

Steph's Adventures in Addis. Thursday, 9 January 2014. Bringing the Memories Home. One of his favorite stops on the trip to Yabello was Yirgachefe. The coffee house was like most others on our journey. Patrons sat on short wooden stools to drink their expresso sized coffee out of handless mugs. The smell of fresh traditionally brewed coffee mixed with burning incense sat heavy in the thin mountain air. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sweet Home Addis Ababa. 8221; Honestly, I wish. Steph's Adventures in Addis: “How is Ethiopia?”
http://stephsadventuresinaddis.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-is-ethiopia.html
Steph's Adventures in Addis. Monday, 28 October 2013. 8220;How is Ethiopia? In an introductory conversation with an Ethiopian friend of a friend, a colleague or even a cab driver, it is very likely that they will ask ‘How is Ethiopia? 8217; After establishing how long you have been in the country, most Ethiopians want to know how you feel about their nation. Fair enough. I recognize that it is not everyone, people have helped me find mini-buses, and been very kind, but its in-between demeaning animal lik...

Axumite influence on the design of many of the church windows (Axum is further north and is where legend has it that the Arc of the Covenant is housed.) Whatever the history may be, the reality is that photos and descriptions of the churches, set into the rock hardly do justice to seeing them in person. I feel incredibly fortunate ...

An introvert boy playing an extrovert game. Malamawi Island, Basilan. December 28, 2016. As a young backpacker, my dream is to travel the 81 provinces of the Philippines, it is popularly known as Project 81. It is my dream, too, to set foot in Basilan! Yes, the most dangerous province in the Philippines, a place where a lot of people would not dare to go, yet it has caught the attention of many local and foreign travelers, especially those who have the lust for adventure. Where is Devin | Thoughts from the Road
Thoughts from the Road. I’m on the rooftop of the Seng Hout hotel watching the sunset over Battambang. The Muslim call to prayer is echoing across the river and the ornate roofs of Buddhist temples are glinting in the orange light. I decided to stay another day here and am glad I did. There’s a restaurant I really like: Jaan Bai. A resturant non-profit with bespoke pottery, delicious food, and a design style that fits right in with the Kinfolk magazines they have stacked in the bookshelf. Another highlig...

August 13, 2015. Los Angeles - SIGGRAPH 2015. This week, I'm in sunny Los Angeles, California. The weather here is so much nicer than back in Austin. As it actually cools in the evening when the sun goes down. I'm here at another industry conference. This one is called SIGGRAPH. Short for Special Interest Group on GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques. I'm staying in downtown LA, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. I haven't stayed here for about 15 years - back when I worked for Sega. In the Line of Fire.
