Small Screen Saver: January 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 January 2014. Trying to do full blog posts is something I'm finding very difficult lately, so for the last month I've been posting mini reviews on my Facebook page (which you can like using the button on this page). But I appreciate that not everyone likes Facebook, so at the end of each month I'll compile the reviews I've done here. So here's a summary of the pick of January's rentals. Enjoy! Small Screen Saver: December 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, 18 December 2014. Sony's "No Win" Situation. Late last month, Sony Pictures Entertainment was hacked by a group calling themselves the Guardians of Peace. I'm not going to go into great detail but for more background on it, Deadline have pieced together a comprehensive timeline of events. My Take (for what it's worth):. I think that Sony made the right decision. I think what Sony did was actually pretty brave on their part. What do you guys think? Thursday, 11 December 2014. For the month of De...

Small Screen Saver: August 2015
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, 22 August 2015. Now on Netflix. "John Carpenter's Starman" (1984). This post was originally written as a "Retro Review" in 2014, but seeing as the film was added to Netflix on the 19th of August 2015, I couldn't not. It We've all gone back and watched movies from our youth only to find that it wasn't all we remembered it to be. "Starman" gave me a lot more. A stone cold classic. Small Screen Saver Score: 5/5. Starman" is now streaming on Netflix UK and Ireland. Watch the trailer here:. So last ...

Small Screen Saver: July 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 30 July 2014. Retro Review: "The Ghost and the Darkness". Every once in a while I like to revisit some older films that either I never got around to, or go back and check out something that I've seen before but it's been so long that I might as well be watching it again for the first time. From 1996, "The Ghost and the Darkness" falls into the second category. The lion attack scenes are always tense in both daytime and nighttime settings, and there is always a sense that no character is safe.

Small Screen Saver: February 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 25 February 2014. New DVD Review: "Thor: The Dark World". The gang's all back, for better or worse, minus director Kenneth Brannagh for a return to Asgard, sibling rivalry, and people getting hammered. It is NOT, as you've been led to believe, a fun romp where Thor and Loki head off on a merry adventure. What's good about it? What's not so good about it? No actually. That goes nowhere too. Small Screen Saver Score: 2/5. Format Reviewed: Blu-Ray rental. Extras: A few featurettes, but the real bon...

Small Screen Saver: June 2015
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, 27 June 2015. Now on Netflix: "Blue Ruin". So my buddies from The Q Filmcast announced that they would be reviewing this film, and it was the kick in the arse that I needed to actually watch it. It's been sitting in my Netflix watchlist for quite a while and while I've heard good things about it, I just never made the time for it. When I got a chance the other night, I took it. Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves". Small Screen Saver Score: 3/5. Watch the trailer here:.

Small Screen Saver: April 2015
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 April 2015. Cinema Review: "Avengers: Age of Ultron". A full week or so before it hits cinemas (theatres) in the States, we get "Avengers: Age of Ultron". I was lucky enough to attend a midnight screening at Omniplex in Wexford on the 23/4/15 at 00:01am with a bunch of other Marvel enthusiasts, and here's my thoughts. The story at hand though is a simple one. Stark creates Ultron. Ultron goes Skynet. Avengers have to try and stop him. It's very simple and straightforward compar...The main cast...

Small Screen Saver: August 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 19 August 2014. New DVD Review: "The Raid 2: Berendal". I'm not going to waste time dispensing a fluffy opening paragraph. Unlike Gareth Evans' film, there is going to be no flab on this review. "The Raid 2: Berendal", to give it it's full title (I'm a total hipster like that) it a crushing disappointment. As alluded to earlier, it's an overlong mess of a movie. It's an ambitious mess, but a mess nonetheless. I had to go on to IMDb to see if there was a plot point that has escaped me. Sunday, 3 ...

Small Screen Saver: April 2014
http://smallscreensaver.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 14 April 2014. New DVD Review: "Parkland". The directorial debut of Peter Landesman focuses on the events leading up to, during, and immediately after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Rather than concentrate on the major players in the story, Landesman chooses to tell the story from the perspective of Abraham Zapruder (he who captured the now famous footage), the staff of the Parkland hospital, and the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald. What's good about it? What's not so good about it? It's a to...
