Where's Doug? — Tanzania Safari Camps
http://wheresdoug.com/post/126678122889/tanzania-safari-camps
Send me an email. Posted on August 14, 2015. Let’s start the Tanzania safari story with an overview of the parks and camps we visited over our 11 days. We made the decision to go to the southern parks rather than the more famous ones of Serengeti and Ngorongoro in order to avoid the larger crowds that those parks get. We got to the parks in small planes, 6 to 12 seats. You rarely leave the vehicle during a drive and never around animals. The requirements in the parks were 200 meters from any wildlife...

Send me an email. A blog of sights and experiences from our travels. August 2 - 6 - Ruaha National Park. It was a two hour flight to Ruaha in the small 12 passenger plane. There are several different terrains at Ruaha. The rolling highlands are dominated by the baobabs and the wooden banana tree, with few acacias. Here the game is lots of elephants and some antelope, with fewer zebra and giraffes. It was sparring day with young impala, elephants, and giraffe all doing play fights. There were both baboons...

Send me an email. A blog of sights and experiences from our travels. August 7-10 Katavi N.P. Our last park was Katavi in far western Tanzania. This park is off the main tourist routes and so there were not many there. In part that’s because it’s a newer park, there’s not as frequent air service and takes some time to get to the remote location. But that is exactly what we asked our safari planner for. Katavi has a lot of small trees and shrubs, much more than the first two parks. You might think that thi...

Where's Doug? — July 30 - August 1 - Selous
http://wheresdoug.com/post/126684946779/july-30-august-1-selous
Send me an email. July 30 - August 1 - Selous. Posted on August 14, 2015. Our first stop was three days in Lake Manze Camp in the Selous Game Preserve just a short flight from Dar es Dalaam. The Selous has large savannas with lots of lakes interspersed and a large river. This means that there is reliable water year round, so the animals don’t need to make long daily trips to water. All of the lakes mean a lot of hippos and other animals. Visually the acacia trees are the dominate plants in the landscape.

Well my friend Clifford has offered me his help for the last several years to help me cure the black smoke the bus has been belching, so I headed to Mohave Valley, Az. in March 2013 to tackle the job. The result has been a complete training class on 2 stoke diesel basics and a total rebuild of the engine. Get ready for more than you ever wanted to know about the Detroit Diesel 8V71! And my last visit to Mohave for maintenance and repairs. The Blower Project is Next.
Where’s Drew?
A work in progress.). Running with the Pack (part 1). July 16th, 2014. This is the first half (I think) of the third story in this series. While I was writing it, everything that’s in this part was very clear to me. I hadn’t intended to end it where I did, but that’s just how it ran its course. I will finish it up at some point, but for now I feel it’s a pretty solid bit of storytelling. Did you notice there’s no edit marker up there in the title? Posted in Curious Compositions. July 5th, 2014. Did you s...

Where am I?
Saturday, April 28, 2012. Wow, I miss this! Life has been so busy here lately! The days are so full that I can't quite find the time to write when it's light outside. But as soon as the kids are in bed, I pass out! I'm in the car- in Tennessee! We are heading to Missouri. I am hoping for loads of great photos and the time to play catch up when I get home. I have so much fun stuff to share! So many great projects going on involving our home and property! Thursday, April 12, 2012. Just a few observations.
