Where the Sidewalk Starts: Walking Comes First in European Transportation Policy

http://www.wherethesidewalkstarts.com/2015/07/walking-comes-first-in-european.html

Best of the Blog. Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Walking Comes First in European Transportation Policy. It seems like we're always looking to Europe as we try to improve pedestrian safety here in the US. Are they really doing things so much better over there? You can see why by taking a look at this one simple chart from the European Transport and Safety Council's new report Making Walking and Cycling on Europe's Roads Safer. It illustrates one of the report's key recommended policies:. You get the idea. It's ...

Best of the Blog. Monday, March 30, 2015. The Paradox of the Cul-de-Sac. Last week I posted this article from The Atlantic. About how urban design- specifically long blocks and meandering street patterns- can lead to less walking and poorer health for residents. The cul-de-sac in particular gets a bad rap,. But I have a confession to make: I live on a cul-de-sac. Actually, heres the real confession: I. Living on a cul-de-sac. Probably not more likely to drive, but my neighbors might be). A fun site that ...

Best of the Blog. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Latest Child Traffic Safety Statistics. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is out with its latest fact sheet. On traffic safety, this time focused on child safety. Including data from 2013, the latest year from which data is available, here are a few key statistics:. http://pedestrianist.blogspot.com/2010/12/powell-street-sidewalk-widening.html

Friday, December 17, 2010. Powell Street Sidewalk Widening. This Looks. AWESOME. Powell street is so thick with pedestrians, this space is badly needed. Hopefully, bringing the level of the new space up to sidewalk height will lead to it being more well-used than the brief trial. The city ran a year ago. In the 1950s-1990s, land use and transportation policy acquiesced to the pursuit of the American Dream. The LA Subway Blog: Can the richest neighborhoods be exempt from bus lanes?

http://www.lasubwayblog.com/2010/11/can-rich-be-exempt-from-bus-lanes.html

The LA Subway Blog. Transportation, Real Estate, and the Future of Los Angeles. Thursday, November 18, 2010. Can the richest neighborhoods be exempt from bus lanes? Can the richest neighborhoods be exempt from bus lanes? Richer cities Santa Monica and Beverly Hills are already not participating in the bus-only lane. Now, Metro and LA DOT must decide whether the richest section of the City of Los Angeles that the bus lane passes through will also be exempt. November 18, 2010 at 11:06 PM. My thoughts, and ...

Where the Sidewalk Ends

Where the Sidewalk Ends. Homesteading for Novices, by Novices. Own Your Life. Own Your Choices. August 14, 2015. I have this idea that before, because I worked in a high stress, no money job in a very fancy hospital, I was more of value. I have this notion that because I am living off my husbands income, I am inching closer to being a waste of space. I’ve also been a treat to be around, I assure you. Are, or how the only reality is the one we’re living. But plenty of others have described these concepts ...
