Tis the season to be festive, so here's my bit of gingerbread architecture! Gingerbread and icing, and boiled sweets melted down for the windows. The roofs lift off to allow lights to be placed in each of the four turrets. There's no balsa wood or dowelling in this foodstuff, unlike those cheating so-called-cake-decorators on TV. Another puppet done, this one will be going up for sale on Etsy as a bit of an experiment. Think of him as Ratman #2. A simple planter made of a lightbulb and wire. Festive rag rug wreath for the coming Crimbo. And a bit of rough sculpting and testing: Fester Fish and some spider-head-thing. Canvas and Fairy Folk. It's always good to see people putting your work to good use, and I received this link to the stop-motion puppet I created, Rufus, in a few short tests. I love seeing people make them come to life in their own way. And to kick the year off [and the return to my blog] here's the latest puppet posted in my Etsy store: Stanley Sloth. I've decided I can't bear to throw failed tests in the bin, so I'm starting to sell them on to anyone who might want them, at reduced prices on my Etsy shop. Custom Stop-Motion Puppets and Models. Some information for those thinking of ordering a puppet or creature from me and some extra for those who already have! I work mostly with old-school latex sculpting for my puppets, as opposed to (the more modern) silicone. Also I use deformable aluminium frame armatures as opposed to (much more labour intensive) ball and socket armatures. Ivan Whillock did his first wood carvings at the age of twelve in his father's furniture shop. He received his art degree in 1959 and has studied with sculptor Angel Lillo, and master carver Eduardo Gutierrez. Thursday, October 9, 2008. 1 Top Picture: I start with a drawing and then create a wood and wire armature that will hold the clay. Aluminum wire is easily bent, so I use that for the flexible parts of the hand. 2 I model the hands straight with no particular pose in mind. It looks ready to be carved into wood.
