Mint Rosewater Fruit Salad – Whiskful Thinking

https://whiskful.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/mint-rosewater-fruit-salad

Mint Rosewater Fruit Salad. June 4, 2013. May 13, 2016. This is one of my absolute favorite things on a hot, summer day. After 2 years of making this fruit salad, it has become a family staple and it’s about time to share. Just in time for summer days ahead! Mint Rosewater Fruit Salad. Inspired by Joy the Baker. This recipe is super flexible… any combination of melon and berries works great. The rosewater/lime/agave combo is an approximation, so feel free to adjust to taste. Juice of 2 small limes. Click...

Chewy chocolate toffee cookies – Whiskful Thinking

https://whiskful.wordpress.com/2012/07/30/chewy-chocolate-toffee-cookies

Chewy chocolate toffee cookies. July 30, 2012. After baking countless batches of brownies over the years, I am truly excited to have found these cookies. They are like brownie cookies! The recipe has been posted here. I’ve known about it for a couple of years but have never gotten around to making them. Until now, thank goodness! Slightly adapted from Smitten Kitchen. I went a little shy on the salt, and I used pecans instead of walnuts. I also went shy on the sugar, but that’s because my choco...5 14-ou...

Almond Hazelnut Roasted Plums – Whiskful Thinking

https://whiskful.wordpress.com/2012/09/03/almond-hazelnut-roasted-plums

Almond Hazelnut Roasted Plums. September 3, 2012. September 3, 2012. I totally lucked out at a recent farmer’s market and ended up with a bargain: ten of the most amazing green plums EVER. These plums are firm yet juicy, tart yet deliciously sweet. Even though it has been wonderful gobbling these plain over the sink, I had the urge to add some (buttery, nutty) flair. This would be SO good with yogurt or ice cream. Roasted Plums with Almond Hazelnut Streusel. 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter. Bake until the ...

Peanut butter cookies – Whiskful Thinking

https://whiskful.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/peanut-butter-cookies

November 11, 2012. November 11, 2012. Watch out for the peanut butter punch, taste buds. Lots and lots of peanut butter and ground peanuts! These cookies have a soft, chewy texture. I wanted to make them nice and big, so the thickness of the cookie is what kept it soft. If you’re looking for something more crispy, I imagine you could flatten the cookies more before baking. Rolling the dough balls in ground peanuts adds some extra texture. Plus the little peanut flecks look yummy in the baked cookies.

Devil’s Food Chocolate Pudding. June 19, 2012. June 19, 2012. After a ridiculously intense year of internships and classes, summer is finally here. Extra time for creativity in the kitchen! I’m excited to end my blogging hiatus and start sharing my dishes again. Let’s talk about chocolate pudding. And I mean ultra rich, creamy chocolate pudding that feels like satin on your tongue. Seriously people, this is like snack pack on steroids. Continue reading →. March 27, 2012. March 27, 2012. January 18, 2012.

Nancy Bakes: August 2012

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Chicken and Rice X2. The "silence is golden" announcement always stands out to me when I go to the movies. I cringe at the representation of all of the annoying ways we can distract one another from the film. As technology advances, there is an increasing number of ways people can interrupt the movie. From ringtones to glowing touchscreens, crying babies to squealing preteens, the possibilities are endless. Not only that, but drive-ins almost always. Chicken and Rice in Español.

Nancy Bakes: Raspberry Limoncello Popsicles

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/08/raspberry-limoncello-popsicles.html

Monday, August 20, 2012. I refuse to admit to myself that summer is ending. It's difficult each year, but usually I become too bored to stay home any longer. Unfortunately, summer 2012 hasn't bored me, yet. As the tan fades, and September approaches, I just have to be honest with myself; it's been a good break. There really isn't anything else I can do but sit back, (maybe in a hammock), put my feet up, and have a popsicle. Makes 4 medium-large popsicles). Adapted from Everyday Food. 3 oz simple syrup.

Nancy Bakes: Chocolate Chip Challah

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/08/chocolate-chip-challah.html

Friday, August 10, 2012. Baking bread can seem daunting to people. There's yeast, kneading ( or not. And multiple risings. These are steps in the baking process that aren't routine to us cookie. Yet, what most of us don't realize, is that the rewards of bread-making are so fan-freakin-tastic. The smells, the taste, the texture. All worth it. Braid, brush, rise for an hour. Brush the loaves again with a second egg coating, then enjoy the next 30 - 45 minutes as the smell of challah dances through your home.

Nancy Bakes: Butter Sage Chicken

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/08/butter-sage-chicken.html

Wednesday, August 8, 2012. I love the smell of melted butter. It has such great associations, too. Melted butter on my mom's fresh flour tortillas, melted butter over pancakes. Or on the side of a steaming plate of clams and lobster. The smell of melted butter means something great is about to be had. So, less than a week later, I find myself in the kitchen, with a pack of chicken breasts, ready to punch my taste buds again. Cooked chicken is set aside to make way for the butter sage sauce. 2 tablespoons...

Nancy Bakes: June 2012

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 22, 2012. Cinnamon Ribbon Breakfast Cake. Making cupcakes started my love for baking. In order to get people to like me, I decided to regularly supply people in the residence halls with home, er, dorm. Which made up for the numerous lumps of flour that would end up baked into the finish product. From there, I started making variations on simple cake mix cupcakes. I'd use the mix batter to create Oreo cupcakes, peanut butter surprise cupcakes, and other recipes from the Cake Mix Doctor. 3 tea...

Nancy Bakes: Rosemary Boule

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/06/rosemary-boule.html

Monday, June 18, 2012. Before my senior prom, a group of friends and I went to my (then) favorite restaurant, Romano's Macaroni Grill. I loved the paper tablecloths, (and writing on them with crayons), I loved the funky ties on the waiters, (and how they all had mastered the skill of writing their name upside-down), I loved the Italian language tape playing in the bathroom, but most of all I loved their bread. But to me it just wasn't the same. While I don't miss going, I do have moments where memories o...

Nancy Bakes: Back from Vacationland!

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/07/back-from-vacationland.html

Tuesday, July 24, 2012. The problem with Vacationland is that it makes Normal-land seem so. normal. My summer break is half over and I've loved every minute. I went to the Vacationland where the churches are domed, and the statues are perfect. There was not a shortage of walled cities overlooking rolling hills. These were some of the most beautiful places I've ever set my eyes on, and I am already aching to go back. Then, I got the chance to spend a week in the ACTUAL Vacationland. Posted by Nancy Diane.

Nancy Bakes: Pancakes

http://nancybakes.blogspot.com/2012/06/pancakes.html

Friday, June 15, 2012. It's finally summer break. No more waking up at 6 am. And more time for things that really matter. 3 oz heavy cream. 1 cup AP flour. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 2 tablespoons butter, melted. In a large mixing bowl, combine the 3 ounces of heavy cream with the 3 ounces of water and the 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Let sit for at least 5 minutes to thicken and sour. Posted by Nancy Diane.
