WHISKY MARKS 3 (H I J K L M). Saturday, 7 February 2009. Respectable medium speysider providing for Dewar's Blends. This is not generally well known, and is rather shy of the Malt market. It has an alter-ego called GLEN DEVERON which pops up with regularity at auctions, but the unrestrained magnificence that can be Macduff can only be found in the dusty corners of the Indi bottlers. Full bodied, peated, crisp/lush singed fruit cake, liquorice and roasted nuts. Macduff 36 y.o. (D Taylor Ltd) 93/100.

WHISKY MARKS 3 (H I J K L M). Saturday, 7 February 2009. Another big Islay bruiser! This is arguably the strongest tasting Malt made in Scotland with the exception of Bruichladdich's Octomore, and whatever is the next million-parts-per-million peat horror! This Malt has the interesting reputation of being the Scotch Whisky for sale in the U.S.A. during prohibition being available at chemists as a tonic. Cos it was considered too foul-tasting to be drunk as liquor. Laphroaig 1/4 Cask 90/100.

Fragrant, complex, flowery, vanilla and an aromatic finish. Interesting, this distillery had two Lomond Stills back in the mists of time, producing a sweet, smooth Malt called MOSSTOWIE. WHISKY MARKS 1 (A B C). An evolving Log of whiskies A-Z and stuff. Monday, 2 February 2009. A lowland malt, situated in Dalnotter just north of Clydebank and below the Crematorium! This is one of only two Distilleries in Scotland to triple distill through three separate stills (as shown in the picture). Springbank is the other Distillery to do like-wise. This malt is considered amongst the lightest and gentle of whiskies and is a good introduction along with Glenfiddich for whisky grommits!

This characterful highland Malt from Inverness was part of a twin Distillery operation with Glen Albyn, however, being old, charming and making good Malt was no protection from closure, and now the distillery is a shopping centre. The taste is considered nutty, cereal and malty, and surviving bottlings have had the advantage of time in refill, old (traditional) casks, and therefore, the provenance is good, and the experience . probably positive.
