Whitchurch Fencing Club is the only dedicated épée fencing club in Cardiff, and is a friendly club for fencers of all abilities. We welcome new members, as well as visiting fencers, and those looking for another night’s fencing. The club runs three annual épée competitions: the O'Sullivan Cup, the Whitchurch Shield, and the Whitchurch Club Championship. Epée is the easiest weapon to understand, as the whole body is the target, and there are no rules regarding priority or rights of way.

The club started life as an evening class for beginners to fencing, in Whitchurch Adult Centre, run in the premises of Whitchurch High School, Cardiff. Originally organised by the late Glynne Reynolds, the class was run from the late 60s until his retirement from fencing in 1990 by Barrie Diamond. A notable feature of the class was the number of "beginners" who re-enrolled each year, rather than migrate to other clubs, such was the successful club-like atmosphere of the class. It took Alana and I all day 1 week ago last Friday to decide on the plants we wanted to use. And, while deciding we discussed where we would like the plants to go.
