Last Minute Elf | Tom's Workbench

Lights, Camera, Action! Every woodworker has this fantasy. You may think you don’t, but believe me, you do. It’s early on that special morning during the holiday season. Cup of coffee in hand, gathered with your pajama-clad loved ones, you wear the sly smile of someone who knows something that the other people in the room don’t. There’s a special someone there, looking for the gift marked for them, but they looked perplexed. I don’t see a gift here for me. Did you forget? But, hey, that’s cool. In fa...

Tine vs. The World: Tine vs. "I Don't Know"
http://tinemanzari.blogspot.com/2011/08/tine-vs-i-dont-know.html
Tine vs. The World. Tine vs. "I Don't Know". There is probably nothing more nerve wracking than using a public restroom with my daughter in tow. Whenever I have to take her into a public restroom, I always feel like I'm in one of those movies where there is a bomb that needs to be diffused before the whole building blows up.only instead of a bomb it's my daughter who's about to piss her pants. And instead of diffusing. The bomb, I've got to fully mummify. Either she has to go or she doesn't, right? And t...

The Village Carpenter: Life's Curve Balls
http://villagecarpenter.blogspot.com/2013/03/lifes-curve-balls.html
One person's woodworking journey, with a focus on handtools, a nod to the past, and an appreciation for the creative spirit. Monday, March 11, 2013. Been a wee bit quiet around the shop lately. We had a health scare three weeks ago and, long story short, I've been busy taking care of my partner, managing the household, walking the dogs, and running my business. No time for woodworking at all. Hopefully we'll fall into a routine soon and I'll get back to it, but family comes first. Hope she feels better!

The Village Carpenter: We All Have A First Project
http://villagecarpenter.blogspot.com/2013/02/we-all-have-first-project.html
One person's woodworking journey, with a focus on handtools, a nod to the past, and an appreciation for the creative spirit. Wednesday, February 6, 2013. We All Have A First Project. This is Get Woodworking Week—the thoughtful event initiated by Tom Iovino of Tom's Workbench. I thought for days about what to write. Then I remembered the value of "show, don't tell.". So, for your viewing pleasure, I present some of my very first projects from 20 or so years ago. Am I embarrassed to show them? And you'll b...

The Village Carpenter: Horned Smoother Part X
http://villagecarpenter.blogspot.com/2013/02/horned-smoother-part-x.html
One person's woodworking journey, with a focus on handtools, a nod to the past, and an appreciation for the creative spirit. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Horned Smoother Part X. Herein lies Sven's last post. Totally fun project. I added a little decoration to the wedge by carving my initials in the top portion and carving a curvy element at the bottom of the ramp. The clamping blocks that were positioned along the sides of the blank have a space between them so that I could see my layout lines. Svens ha...

Tine vs. The World: Tine vs. Temper Tantrums #2
http://tinemanzari.blogspot.com/2013/06/tine-vs-temper-tantrums.html
Tine vs. The World. Tine vs. Temper Tantrums #2. Ever since my daughter Alex was a baby, she's been the Queen of Temper Tantrums. They're not trying to be nice, people. They want you to suffer just like they did. And suffer you will because karma is a bitch. And it my case, she deals in tantrums. What puts Alex in these tantrums, you ask? She's a beautiful, sweet child . . . clearly I must be demanding too much to put her into a fit, right? So, in an act of desperation, this is what occurred tonight:.

Tine vs. The World: About Tine
http://tinemanzari.blogspot.com/p/about-tine_23.html
Tine vs. The World. I always wanted to be a writer, though, and for years while I fulfilled my need for creativity as a graphic designer, I kept reading books and kept dreaming about writing one of my own. I never forgot those summers I spent at writing camp and promised myself that one day I WOULD write a book.

Tine vs. The World: Tine vs. The Naked Truth
http://tinemanzari.blogspot.com/2013/01/tine-vs-naked-truth.html
Tine vs. The World. Tine vs. The Naked Truth. I was impossibly spoiled this Christmas. My husband likes to tease me and call me a Princess when he thinks I'm making some absurdly ridiculous demand.like asking him to take the filthy sweatpants and crusty socks that have been camping out on the office floor for a week to the laundry room. Even though I'm probably one of the most low-maintenance wives in history, he never misses the chance to joke about my royalty status. Honey, can you bring in some wood?

Tine vs. The World: Tine vs. Moronic Mothering
http://tinemanzari.blogspot.com/2013/03/tine-vs-moronic-mothering.html
Tine vs. The World. Tine vs. Moronic Mothering. Last year I kept hearing about this book called Cinder. That was written by Marissa Meyer. Every time I went to the bookstore, I picked up the book and read the book jacket copy. A Cinderella story about a cyborg. Was coming out in two weeks. Two weeks later I waltzed in to B&N as soon as they opened, grabbed my copy of Scarlet. It sounds a tad Misery-ish, doesn't it? Forget I said anything.). After "taking care of business," the kids and I stood out in the...
