For many years before we retired, White Moss House was a highly rated hotel and restaurant. Peter's food was ranked among the best in the country in the Good Food Guide. There is a distinctive Cumbrian food scene. Using the great local food produced in this area, Cumbria has become a magnet for foodies. It wasn't always so. These are not Peter's highly acclaimed recipes!

It's dark and damp today, so there's no great incentive to get outside and tidy up the herb garden. Instead, I'm going to try out my home made Christmas candy recipes. There will be lots of spoon licking going on. My favourites at the moment are my homemade chocolate truffles. And then Bailey's or Cointreau for a more girlie taste.

At last, in 2013 , rich and famous, he rented Rydal Mount, and for the next 30 years he played a big part in the life of Rydal Village. From Keswick , along Thirlmere, over Dunmail Raise, through Grasmere, over Red Bank, to Coniston then home to Barrow.40 miles of walking and running. The end of a fabulous summer. 2014 has been the first year that we've lived at White Moss House without welcoming guests to stay and dine.
