Outdoor Wisdom: October 2009

http://whitetailchefsblog.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Hunting Stories and Strategies from a Forest Biologist Point of View. Friday, October 30, 2009. Another Big Boy Down. Went hunting Wednesday night . It was a perfect evening, calm winds out of the northeast with 40 degree temperatures. As soon as I got settled in my stand, I had this gut feeling in the pit of my stomach. I said to myself, "this is gonna be the night I see another big one. I called my wife to let her know I hit another one. She proceeded to call babysitters and was on her way.

Outdoor Wisdom: October 2010

http://whitetailchefsblog.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Hunting Stories and Strategies from a Forest Biologist Point of View. Friday, October 8, 2010. I recently made a comment on Facebook about a nice 8-point buck I had on trail cam that got shot during the youth hunt here in Michigan. It stirred up some emotions and to varying degrees, criticism and comments. I like the fact that it is a hot issue, so i thought I would write it in my blog and see what happens. I know, that is hunting, right? Probably, but they will make that choice for themselves. When it c...

Outdoor Wisdom: Did You Get One?

http://whitetailchefsblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/did-you-get-one.html

Hunting Stories and Strategies from a Forest Biologist Point of View. Saturday, September 19, 2009. Did You Get One? This was the start of my fascination of deer hunting. When I was about 7-years old, my father started taking me along to track deer he had shot with his bow. I started out as the last spot marker and gradually became the one who crawled through the thickets looking for more blood. From this point on, I could not wait to be the one doing the shooting of these magnificent animals. The tables...

Outdoor Wisdom: Quality Deer Management: Good or Bad? Part 1

http://whitetailchefsblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/quality-deer-management-good-or-bad.html

Hunting Stories and Strategies from a Forest Biologist Point of View. Friday, December 4, 2009. Quality Deer Management: Good or Bad? There are a lot of varying opinions about Quality Deer Management. This depends on what you want to see - this year, next year, and years to come. Lets start first with deer numbers. If you want to see more deer then does are not what you want to shoot. Here's an example: If you have five bucks and only one doe, how many fawns could be born the following year? You will see...

Outdoors in Southwest Georgia. A compilation of outdoor writings from a guy who loves the outdoors. Saturday, September 26, 2009. Almost but no cigar. The entire encounter lasted for what seemed like forever, but was probably 2 minutes. I had no chance of getting an ethical shot off, but next time will be ready for her and my venison skewer will find its mark. Posted by swgahunter aka gary. Saturday, September 19, 2009. Outdoors in Southwest Georgia. A compilation of outdoor writings from a guy who loves the outdoors. Monday, September 6, 2010. The days are starting to dwindle away until the archery opener for South Georgia. As the magical day draws near, the butterflies are really starting to set in. To top it off, I still have five days until I am sitting in a stand waiting for the elusive whitetail to wander by. I have several reasons for the butterflies, but that doesn't make it any easier. http://swgahunter.blogspot.com/2010/11/slow-going.html

Outdoors in Southwest Georgia. A compilation of outdoor writings from a guy who loves the outdoors. Monday, November 15, 2010. In the meantime, I pray that the lack of seeing deer will be fixed with a change of location, and the lack of killing deer, will be fixed by a change of weapon. Hopefully the next time I write will be to let you know I'm putting meat in my freezer. Thanks for your time, and safe happy hunting. Remember when in doubt, don't pull the trigger. Outdoors in Southwest Georgia. A compilation of outdoor writings from a guy who loves the outdoors. Saturday, November 21, 2009. So far, so good. The 2009 hunting season is in full swing, and I have had a blast. I only have killed the one doe, but I have seen deer just about every time I have been in the woods. Just last night I had several deer, including a buck, inside 50 yards. But for some different reasons I couldn't get the shot off. Posted by swgahunter aka gary. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Outdoors in Southwest Georgia. A compilation of outdoor writings from a guy who loves the outdoors. Thursday, December 24, 2009. Finally good trailcam pics. I think he could grow some funky stuff. Not only was I lucky enough to get this deer on camera but also I got one of those rare photos of a fox carrying a rabbit in its mouth that he had just killed. I have seen people post these pictures before, but this is a first for me. Posted by swgahunter aka gary. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Focus in the Wild.
