As with all Whiting Design projects, the walls of the new addition are very well insulated (to R38), passive solar is considered in the size and orientation of windows and overhangs, and durable, healthy materials are used throughout. The new space also features supplementary heat in the form of a small high efficiency wood stove, in a nod to both resilience and human comfort.

Taco Farm started as a dream collaboration between two local restaurant owners, and has quickly become an institution in the Waterloo restaurant scene. From the in-house fresh tortilla manufacturing to the dedication to local sourcing of all meats and most other ingredients, Taco Farm is all about healthy and community based connections. Did we mention the food is some of the best in the Region? It has certainly become an office favorite on more occasions than we'd care to admit.

Seven Shores Urban Market and Cafe has quickly established itself as an institution at the heart of the local food scene in Waterloo. We were retained to do the full interior design of the space as well as an outdoor seating and shade structure. An outdoor dining, reading, and chilling room for a busy family who in their words "will eat outside 364 days a year" given the option. A concrete slab on grade supports a wooden superstructure made from locally sourced Eastern White Cedar. Modern lines create a bright, open, high ceiling room which emphasizes natural light and views. The roof structure is over sized to support a green roof. Tucked in beside it is a storage shed for all those back yard bits.

Curbless showers are designed for universal access, with seamless floor transitions and carefully placed controls and grab bars that integrate smoothly into the modern aesthetic. Low profile radiators provide space heating, with hydronic tubing embedded in the basement slab and entryway. Lighting is not recessed, but rather carefully selected LED fixtures provide light where needed. Photography by Peter Sellar - photoklik.

Welcome to Whiting Designs where ribbon is turned into art. I work primarily with French ribbon transforming it into ribbon flower pins, purses, and barrettes. Specifically I use French wired ribbon. The wire allows me to sew, pinch, twist and otherwise coax the ribbon into the flowers it wants to be. It also allows my pieces to age gracefully as they are worn and loved, giving them vintage appeal.
